Heroes: The Power OF Failure [Extrta Credits Episode]

Just watched the latest episode of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IyPc5nw0Wk and thought I'd share it here with you folks. There are some interesting and valid points made and I tend to agree that to be a good hero, one must find that spot where they can not win, then find a way to overcome that.

I find heroes in games lately are simply Gods in the form of whatever the game has for races. This is not simply losing a tough fight (that can be re-loaded), but some obstacle set in the hero's path to making the world how they want it.

EC addresses the excellent medium that video games present for helping players feel "Godlike", and I do agree that there is no other feeling like plowing through a screen full of enemies and barely breaking a sweat (or using healing).

Overcoming obstacles is the very basis for most games. However, more often than not, these obstacles are presented in terms of combat. There are so many other ways to impede a player's progress besides combat. Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate the constant fighting that today's game seem to thrive upon?

Any thoughts on the matter?
