Post » Fri May 08, 2015 7:22 pm

This thread is for ideas and suggestions for future Elder Scrolls games, and to keep all the discussion in one series of threads.

We also have an official thread specifically for http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1517357-tes-vi-location-and-setting-speculation-22/ suggestions for future games.
Now that Skyrim has been released the number of suggestions and ideas for the next ES game are starting to show up. We have a long way to go before we get another ES game and all topics like this will be closed and either transferred or referred to this one.

Please keep any discussion of Skyrim in the correct forums.

I wish Bethesda could push the envelope with the next installment and bring something truly revolutionary to the genre. Oblivion and Skyrim did a lot of things right but nothing that hasn't been seen before in various games. While the strength of TES is having so many gameplay components in one single game (thus not every one of them is very polished, understandable) I feel like Bethesda is becoming lazy in a comfort bubble where all they need is add some half-baked new features (see marriage, kids), polish some ancient engine a little, cut some features like spellmaking and levitation and voila, fresh new game.

I wish they were more ambitious than that, being an in-house studio with virtually no publisher pressure and (after the success of Skyrim) a lot of resources to spend... so I dare you Todd Howard, bring something revolutionary into the genre, not just evolutionary into the series. Technology, stats, true radiant a.i., anything you like, but make TES 6 a milestone in the industry like Doom or Deus Ex, something to be remembered as a stunningly original and unparalleled.

That's far easier said than done though. What would they add that hasn't already been done? Parkour? Voxel based environmental manipulation? Simulated economics? Multi-player? They've all been done before.

The only new concept I can really think of is hard implementation of VR, allowing for a 3 axis control scheme, but that requires them to go rather HAM into VR... And doing so would disqualifly console implementation.

Just keep it fun Bethesda. Exploration of a new world is fun. Skyirm got it pretty right, Speaking only for me, make it bigger and with more exploration, and I'm a happy camper. I don't need a technical revolution, really what I want to do is just be able to sit down in front of my TV and lose myself in a magical world for a few hours, simply enjoying myself. And maybe eat some butterflys.

Yeah, I'm a pretty undemanding guy. :)

For me it would be a true 'revolution' if they could bring back all the features that used to be a part of TES and then were cut. A game that combines all those features, plus brings the graphics to the level of 2016/17/18, now that would be insane.

Writing remains my 1st concern though, I wish they could design more diverse and interesting quests, more believable faction interactions, more RP options in dialogue with skill checks and more reactive NPCs to the player character and to what's happening to the world. That wouldn't be literally a 'revolution', but certainly a welcome evolution for TES to combine the top class worldbuilding with more compelling stories and characters.
