Some help with the graphics card?

Post » Fri May 08, 2015 9:42 pm

I tried to install Skyrim to my laptop as well but it gave me this error: skyrim failed to initialize renderer

I've been looking all over the internet and apparently it may have something to do with the Graphics Card. On my laptop it is written Intel Graphics 4000. However, I don't see the same in Control Panel, but I'm new to this and I may not know where and what I seek. Here is a screenshot: http://postimg.org/image/vvtz0zbrr/

Any help will be much appreciated!

----

The laptop is Acer Aspire E1-570

I'll say this here since bumping the thread would be pointless now that my problem is solved:

Thanks for your help! I'll play taking into account all of what we discussed here and I won't go nuts on modding.

Integrated graphics chips (Intel CPUs) are not the best options for gaming. I think some people managed to get some games to work but just barely and at very low settings. As for your issue, I am not sure if that is Skyrim's way of telling you that it cannot be played with that video renderer or if something else is happening. Also your image, standard VGA chipset and Intel Graphics 4000 are the same thing iirc.

Well it seems Windows uses not your Intel HD 4000 at all. !!! (Actually it does not use any Video hardware accelerator at all)

What GPU is listed, in your device manager, under Display adapters (as your native GPU) ???

It should just say: Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

RIGHT ???

Meaning, you haven't installed any graphics drivers, on your laptop. !!!

As stated by Mark41, you don't have the Intel graphics driver loaded.

By default, Windows loads a failsafe VGA driver, so that you'll as least get output on your screen, but it not appropriate for running 'accelerated' applications or games. You may even notice screen refresh issues on the desktop.

To resolve the issue, just visit your laptop manufacturer's support website and download the Intel graphics driver package. Alternatively you can download it directly from the Intel support website.

The Intel HD 4000 graphics will run Skyrim, but not very well, keep that it mind.

Also, it would be nice, to tell us your laptop manufacturer and model number, to search for your laptops latest drivers. !!!

As stated by Níeh?ggr, that's quite a weak graphic card, and you will get low frame-rates.

If you don't have an I7 processor, i suggest you, to try it first at 1024x768 resolution (medium settings).

From that point on, you will see how far you can go.

Thank you all for the solution! I installed the drivers and the computer recognizes the graphic card. The game works (at the lowest settings) and the loading screen takes a bit of time (sometimes 3 seconds, sometimes 40 seconds), but it doesn't bother me.

I also added a few mods (coverwomen, apachii hair, racemenu, nightsky retexture -4k-, the eyes of beauty, high res face maps for men, hunting grounds outfit and the unp female body). It still works, but given what I learned about graphic cards in this thread I am now pondering on how wise was to mod it.

I have an I3 processor, but as I said the game is... playable. Can I keep playing (mods included, maybe even add the moonpath to elsweyr)? Or will doing that prove harmful to my laptop?

Please be honest if you think I'm asking too much from life. And thanks again for your answers. They're truly important (and useful) to me.

Well, the more the mods, the more the heat (as you stress quite a bit your CPU / GPU compo), but nothing will brake.

If you are OK with the frame-rates you get, why not ???

So this is the laptop: http://www.acer.co.za/ac/en/ZA/content/model/NX.MEPEA.022

Not really meant for gaming though you can play some titles with low settings. If you are thinking about buying a title make sure to do research first.

Definitely stay away from more current titles. Just a warning so be cautious.

You certainly can mod it. The mods you listed are definitely not performance hungry mods. You can try moonpaths also.

I would recommend a temperature monitor of some kind. Keep an eye on it during gameplay. You can try HWmonitor or Speedfan.

Just don't go mod crazy. You have little room to spare for performance.
