1) Do we ever find out how the Super Mutants come about in the game? Did I miss it my first times playing?

2) Anyone use Paladin Cross as a companion? On this (my third) playthrough, I finally met her at the Citadel. She offered to come along, but I have Charon with me. She walked the wastes with Dad and I wonder what her conversations may be like.
