Fallout 3 GOTY Crashing on Windows 10

Post » Fri May 22, 2015 3:20 am

I'm running Windows 10 Preview it's close to the release and is a very solid OS. I know some would argue release candidate OS shouldn't be used for testing software but Windows 10 is only 2 months away from it's official release.

I've got Fo3 GOTY on Steam installed, each time I run the game gets to the loading screen it crashes. The error message is "Fallout 3 has stopped working", my gut tells me this has to do with it's dependency on GFWL!

The reason I believe GFWL (games for windows live) is responsible has to do with Fallout New Vegas running without any issues! considering they both use the same engine I can't see what else could be the culprit.

I've tested this on more than one machine so I know it's an issue, so if any of you know of a quick fix I'd appreciate it.

Did you follow the steps here:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/

Yes, it is for 7/8, but it all applies to Windows 10 too.

And, yes, your right about Games for Windows Live, you need that installed to launch the game. No need to sign on or set up an account, just have the client installed.

And, don't over look the ini tweaks, the game will run for a little while without them, but then it will crash.
