How to Import Witcher 2 Save File in Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

If you’re planning to start Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, then you need to import the Witcher 2 save file otherwise you’ll miss a lot of fun.

Importing your Witcher 2 save file allows you to check all the decisions that you made in the previous Witcher titles, but the main problem is many gamers are finding it difficult and are unaware how to import the save file.

HOW:

Spoiler

When you are going to start Witcher 3, you may receive the message to import your Witcher 2 save file.

In case, you didn’t get the message it’s because your save file is not in the proper location.

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt wants you to place your previous save games in :\Users\[username]\My Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves

and if you have ever enabled Steam Cloud Save, they will reside in “:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\userdata\[userid]\20920\remote“.

Just firing up the X1 for tonights session. Had a good session on the game last night, I really didn't feel like fighting enemies at all so decided to go to Novigrad. Spent 5 hours there just wandering about and exploring the town, speaking to people, crafted a couple of new items, made some potions and played quite a bit of Gwent with a few of the locals. I also took a couple of quests which involved no fighting and really enjoyed the session. I used to do something similar in Skyrim when I didn't feel like fighting much, I would go to one of the Hearthfire houses and build an extension, do some crafting, sort my displays out and decorate the places.
I think it's good in games to be able to get away from heavy action quests etc and have the facility to do something a little quieter when you feel like playing but don't feel like button mashing. I'm glad TW3 enables the player to do this and I find it a good thing to do every so often. For tonights session however I feel like breaking some heads and so will send Geralt on some tough quests to slay a good few enemies, and of course play a few hands of Gwent!

@Haggar,

I don't think you have messed anything up. I believe the gear recipes have fixed levels. For Griffin Part 4 it is lvl37. I collected part 4 at lvl21.

There are gaps between the sets that other sets fill as you play thru. Part 2 Griffin is lvl15 and the next set of griffin gear is lvl 27 so you need to use gear from other Witcher houses to fill the gaps.

Heavy Costs you stamina. Yes it says so in the recipe I have not made or used any so I don't know how it effects ones fighting. So I am guessing you can't run now the road at full speed as fast or far plus

anything that uses stamina in fighting will be less as well. Way too big a hit for me. I have always played a fast agile character.

((( Big Spoiler ))) Big Tip if you hunt Witcher armor recipes

Spoiler
A monster guards the area but he holds no key. You can sneak around or even freeze him with a bomb to get past.

The chest is not always with the monster it can be near by and no confrontation needs to happen.....think sneaky witcher haha

I think I will be going with a Heavy Armor build with this character. I think I will set the difficulty back to story mode since the combat is more fun that way for me. It makes no difference in the outcome except for the combat is shorter. To me a master of hand to hand combat should be dispatching most enemies in no time since rule number 1 in combat is to end combat as soon as possible if you have to fight.

I will ignore light attacks. I might go with Alchemy and not with any of the signs except for Fire.

What's your character stats screen looking like?

When I am in explorer mode I use an all rounder. Here's mine.

Been trying to get the superior tawny owl potion. But I'm still stuck with the regular version because I can't find arachas venom ANYWHERE. I am level 20, I've never encountered an arachas, and never found it sold in any shop. That is the ONLY ingredient I need to get the enhanced version and then the superior.

@DemonsBlade-

I don't know what's causing that for you but if you're on Xbox you can see if what I'm doing helps. I have 2 separate manual saves that I alternate between, delete all autosaves and checkpoints, and before turning the game off I hit the home button then hit start (or whatever it's called now) while highlighting the Witcher window then select quit to fully quit the game. I noticed in GTA that not quitting the game this way causes problems when jumping back in to the previous spot so it may help with your problem in the Witcher.

@Legion-

Damn you ha...you added a mystery to my map. I went to that location, had no question mark but there was an abandoned site to clear out so I did. Awhile later after doing another side quest in the area I noticed that question mark so I went to investigate and found what looks like a small circus being set up so maybe we have to wait until later and something will appear there. The thing that bothers me is that the the red arrow is on the mini map, hinting that the question mark must be underground but the only thing I found in the area was a cave with nothing in it (probably a quest related location).

I saw a video showcasing the Witcher gear and thankfully they don't level, the normal Griffin gear is level 8...I just assumed it scaled down because it's a level 11 quest and I was level 8 at the time. :P

As for the spoiler, I tried doing that at a different guarded treasure spot but Geralt wouldn't leave combat mode to loot the chest.
