IS Skyrim going to be like OBliv or Morro

Post » Thu May 20, 2010 12:46 pm

I am a huge fan of Morrowind, it was the first real RPG I ever played and it was my gate way drug to World of Warcraft and most of the other RPG's. I loved how everything was put together in Morrowind, but with Oblivion sure the graphics were sick when it came out but it lacked the adventure feel. I miss the dungeon crawling for a certain (epic?) item that was there in TES3. IN oblivion i felt like it was all rushed and sloppy. Idk anyone else have the same feeling?

Pardon the horrible spelling just found out about this game at 4 in the morning D:

Considering the change between past ES games.....it wont be like either of them. Though mosth ere hope that it will be more towards Morrowind then Oblivion.

I complete disagree with Oblivion feeling rushed or sloppy sir. If you remember they were making most of Oblivion before the x-box 360 was even announced. It was pretty much a launch title and for that it was incredible. Heck, I still play it to this day! Of course, all a matter of opinion.

As for Skyrim, we will find out how it will be when the next issue of Game Informer comes out. It will be in the hands of subscribers as early as the 8th. Two days from now. and on newstands (or your local gamestop as it were) around the 14th. 8 Days from now.
The cover of the magazine as well as some "Cool online stuff" will be available at http://www.gameinformer.com/ in about 5 or so hours.

Also, welcome to the forums! http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20081112192241/tesfanon/images/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

Edit* I should also point out that it you can only subscribe to Game Informer if you live in the U.S. But I'm certain no matter where you live if their is a gamestop you will be able to find the magazine there for purchase. And there is no reason subscribing now if you just want it for the Skyrim issue because it will take up to 6 to 8 weeks for them to process your subscription. Thus, you would miss the Skyrim Issue.

Yeah I got Morrowind at like 10 so I never got to experience all the predecessors. I hope and pray they really took the time out to do what they did with Morrowind. It was one of the hardest but funnest games ever and when I first heard of this i was like a little girl for a good 5 minutes.

Do the Devs read the forums?

Even though i started with Oblivion i have to say that Morrowind was better because of the lack of level scaling and the "lone adventurer in a mysterious land"-feeling was in it.

I would like a combination of Oblivion(combat, graphics, balancing) and Morrowind(no levelscaling ,traveling services, factions) plus something new that we haven′t seen yet.

And welcome to the forums, Umbra′s Arm.Have a http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

EDIT: Damn it! Outlander gave it first :D

I have a question relating to your previous post. Have you read the forums? We are on http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1154710-meet-the-devs-8/ a thread specifically for talking to the devs of Skyrim about things not relating to Skyrim :P
Oh and if you ever encountered M'Aiq the liar in either Morrowind or Oblivion I would say that's certainly proof they read the forums.

If that came off as mean it's all in good fun

Not true, you can subscribe outside of the US.
I live in the netherlands and I can subscribe for €50 a year.

ontopic: I think it will not realy look like either, but they will learn from their past games, so I do think there will be nice improvements :)

Really? On their website I know it just refers you to customer service if you want to subscribe and are international. On Gamestop's website they it only ships to U.S. residents. And -I think it was- Gstaff who commented that people in Europe will get their own cover story later in a different magazine. He didn't reveal which.

Hopefully Skyrim will be better than both of them but if I have to choose from those two I will definitely choose Morrowind. MW still had, to a certain degree, the classical rpg elements that hardcoe players liked so much but with Oblivion things went down hill in my opinion. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realized that with Oblivion Beth wanted to cater all audiences(like the console players, for example) This catering started with Morrowind. Beth should comeback to its roots, to the seriousness and deepness that RPG is all about. Inevitably though, money talks; money is the measure of all things in all companies.

As a Morrowind fan, I think it will definitely lean much more towards how Oblivion was. That said, I'm guessing, based on fan reactions as well as decisions made with Fallout, that it will have a few elements that harken back to Morrowind in terms of complexity or maturity or difficulty.

The developers, or more likely the marketing people know exactly what the fans thought about Oblivion. It's a business, they won't shoot themselves in the foot. It will be much more like Morrowind.

Yes of course, Skyrim will be it's own game. Oblivion apologists should stop chanting their mantra, "it's own game, it's own game". We get that, please stop.

The vast majority of fans know Morrowind was a much better game, if you think Bethesda is going to ignore that fact, you are delusional.

I started with Morrowind when i was 13 years old, and it was hard as hell to play, but I never gave it up. Few years later i still played it and I have never had such a great feeling in a game before or after... the world was so complex, so much content, so much to do, so hard to get good armor, great weapons and artifacts. in oblivion bandits throws daedric items after you when you reach a certain lvl.

YEah dude exactly how I feel. If i could get it on the PC or working on the 360 i'd definitely be playing that over Oblivion or any other RPG for that matter.

Personally, I hope it is its own unique game but if it had to be like one or the other I would prefer it be like Oblivion.

I do feel Oblivion was rushed but I try to judge the installment on the shivering isles which was fantastic and had more of the awe quality morrowind possessed. Skyrim will feel like Skyrim. It'll probably be a bit more refined and I wouldn't be surprised if the art style was based in realism like Oblivion and not as fantastic and strange as morrowind. It'll probably be darker than oblivion have some sort of vats feature (maybe pressing a button at a certain time to complete a finishing move) and possibly dismemberment. It'll have a romance feature and dual wield and much more fluid and realistic animations.

I also think it will be the smallest tes yet, (as far as land size and quests) and will also end up having the most dlcs (making it the largest tes game once everything has been purchased). But that's just the cynic in me.

Edit: Misunderstanding. I just go into a rage after seeing 10 of threads like that a day.

Also, I'm sure the reason Oblivion felt so "rushed" or not to its full potential was because it was released right after the release of the 360, so they did not utilize the full potential of current technology.

Oh my gawd. Why are there so many threads like this? Why can't it be its own [censored] ing game. No Morrowind 2.0, Nor a Oblivion 2.0, how about a Skyrim 1.0?

Useless post.

The question is which one will it be more similar to, it's going to be similar to both of them to some degree.

Hopefully it is its own beast, but I do hope that it regains a lot of the depth and sense of wonder that Morrowind had. Oblivion was great, it did a lot right, but there was a lot of magic from Morrowind missing. Here is to hoping they add it back in.

We shall all know at least the general direction of it in a couple days.
