I'd like to give Melee combat a shot in Fallout 3.

My first impressions, way back when the game first came out, were not very favorable. The combat seemed a but clunky; weapons were fairly limited in variety.

But the idea of a wasteland barbarian is really appealing. So how do you melee enthusiasts get into it? What tips, gear, roleplay, tactics, etc, can you offer?

I'm now running with Fallout Wanderer's Edition, if that makes much of a difference.

I never played a full melee build. I usually just use melee on bugs and mole rats since wasting ammo on them is not worth it.

I usually have a light weight melee weapon for those times.
