Hello, Ladies and Gents,
It's been a while since I've been very active here... maybe you can help me - I am searching for a means or a mod that clears working memory cache in game without having to exit the game and launch again...
Forgive me if I have missed something, but I haven't been very active in a bit; just coming back to Skyrim recently with a fresh install, new mod list, and new save game.. After playing around with my mod configuration and slogging through a few minor bugs/compatibility issues, I came to an all-too-familiar realization that Skyrim has a memory leak/optimization problem. Not sure what to call it, but I seemed to recall Oblivion had a similar issue, possibly Morrowind as well.
Let me clarify, for anyone who doesn't already know what I am referring to at this point: it's been my understanding (and a fairly common understanding, I believe) in the last couple Elder Scrolls installments, and certainly for Oblivion, that if you wanted a clean Load of a past save (in the event that you died or encountered a bug, for example), you had to exit to the Main Menu, then Load a save game from there, instead of just loading from the in-game menu. After following this practice in my current Skyrim game, however, I've noticed that information does get retained from the game's previous state. I've seen others post similar complaints after doing a quick google search. Surprisingly, though, after searching high and low, I haven't yet come across any fix for this, or any in-depth discussion about the issue, and most of the discussions I come across are old.
I'd find it strange if no one has tried to address it, b/c just in the short time I've played around with mods over the last few days, I have begun to suspect that this memory leak/cache retention glitch/feature or whatever you want to call it could be the cause of some weird (but fairly repeatable once you know what you are looking for) glitches I have encountered. Particularly I suspect that some scripts may not be getting cleared from memory between game loads.
So has this been addressed in a mod or patch, or is it generally considered a non-issue? I know others here must have noticed something like this...?
(I almost posted this in the Hardware issues forum, but in the past, the Mods section is generally where you'd find the answers to issues like this since it would seem to affect mods and possibly scripts that don't get cleared from the game cache. If this should be posted there, then my apologies in advance)
