So, it is common knowledge to all us lore junkies that the swaplands of Black Marsh are filled with sentient, hiveminded trees called the Hist. Supposedly, when there is an enemy incursion in Black Marsh, the Hist unite the minds of the An-Xileel warrior to make an absolute massacre of the invading forces. This makes the An-Xileel one of Nirn's most efficient killing machines.
But let's not delve into the warriors themselves, but their mystical pupeteers: the Hist themselves.
I first make reference to the Acession War, otherwise known as the Argonian Invasion of Morrowind. Enacted by the An-Xileel, it was an attack of revenge for the Argonian's years of enslavement under the Dunmer houses. It is true no Dunmer today recalls experiencing this invasion, as every single man, woman and child within the attack radius was, supposedly, slaughtered without mercy. Now, my first question is wether or not that is true, given that, despite the An-Xileel's thirst for vengeance, it seems unlikely they would blunt they're blades on innocent families. My second question, perhaps the most importat one, is wether or not they were under the control of the Hist during these events. I realize that the Hist worship a daedric prince, not known for there benevolence, and in particular Sithis, the prince of death and darkness, but surely if the Argonians trust and worship them so, they must know a thing or two about honour and mercy. Surely, if an Imperial Army, realizing their chances of success were trounced by the sheer power of the Hist, threw down their arms and begged for their lives they would be offered the chance to leave in peace.
Am I wrong? Do the Hist just guide their argonian blades down a path of blind killing, or are they merciful to those who cannot fight? I would be interested to hear your opinions on this, even more so to recieve educated answers.
Secondly, I'm probably wrong in saying that the Daedric princes are all totally inseperable bros, in fact, they probably despise eachother, but their's something about the forces of Sithis driving back Mehrunes Dagon's forces to protect the nearby civillian population that hints at the Prince of Death and Darkness just maybe having a good side to him? What do you guys think?
