I am asking this here since I figure the more "real" ES fans are hanging out here instead of the ESO forum. Not sure about that though.

My question is if you play ESO and if so do you actually enjoy the game or do you play it for some other reason?

Personally I play it, but only for the lore since the lore is cannon etc. The actual game is as bad as any other MMORPG though and it is hard to get any enjoyment out of it. Dull characters with abysmaly flat dialogue, no feeling of any dynamic or real world to speak off and bland artifical mechanics that feels more like a board game then anything else.

It is a shame though, since it would be possible to actually make a good MMORPG if they had not looked to just copy paste the competition but actually pour some love and uniqeness into the project.

So anyone else here that play it, and for what reason?

Probably not too many. From the LP's I've watched, I have zero interest in it.

I've actually enjoyed it. And the only other MMO i've enjoyed was WoW (I've played both Guild Wars, FF11 and 14, Tera, SWtOR, GTA, Destiny, and a few i can't even remeber the names of...). The different approach to skills allows for more variation in approach, even if they aren't remotely balanced, there's not a particularly steep learning curve, and both the stories and characters are, frankly, better than we've ever had in the main TES titles. Layer on the fact that it's got easily the best lore since Morrowind, and it's a generally enjoyable game from where i sit.

It's not a GREAT game, nor a revolutionary one. But it's fun enough that i don't regret the expense. I've got more hours in it than i ever spent in Oblivion.

I've been playing it nonstop since I bought it so yeah, I do enjoy it.

While I don't like the game's aesthetics (save for the appearance of the races--those are the best so far), I'm going to have to agree that the characters, stories and lore are above what we've gotten so far. I actually cared about the Alliance questlines! And like, it has the best Cyrodiil so far. Why couldn't that have been Oblivion? (It's still not a jungle but you can't have everything)

What I found interesting is that people who hadn't played the main ES games would say that the quests are far more interesting than any other MMO they've played and I'm like, this is kinda par for the course for TES. Sure, some of the quests are somewhat repetitive in what they make you do (get bucket put out fires, save civilians, travel back in time/into a spirit world, collect the things that were stolen, etc.) but a lot of them actually have meaningful choices. The end of the Aldmeri Dominion story arc was emotionally painful because of that, tbh.

That aside, the crafting is amazing. I love it to bits and I prefer to just spend my time gathering crap and working on my crafting skills. I wish something like the Writs are added to future Elder Scrolls games. Would be nice to make use of the crafting skills so they could be improved more naturally instead of having to take the time to grind them.

Gameplay's okay. It's an MMO I guess. Would have liked it if it were more like the main games but whatever.

If ESO had had an offline single player version, I guess I would have played it

I played the game for 2 months - enough to go through the main story arc. Once I started to be told to run through all of the low level quests again as "veteran levels" I stopped playing the char, and switched to alts, and that faded pretty quickly as well. So basically, so long as I had an interesting story I played, once it became a grind, I quit. Molag Baal storyline was interesting, as was Sheoghorath's quest line (Mage).
