Re-texturing Vault DoorsSliding Doors (help!)

Thanks to anyone who can help me solve this (mediocre at best ) problem I've been having with re-texturing various vault doors and such using the G.E.C.K. Also, for future reference, I am VERY new to this and probably won't understand much other than what I attempt to emulate from demonstrations on YouTube.

Anyhow,

So I was fiddling around with the G.E.C.K. after getting a retail copy of Fallout 3 on disc and was interested in doing something similar to the G.E.C.K. tutorial on the official website by making my own small vault but with custom textures, starting with the main gear door at the entrance. I did some research online and was first presented with the option to edit a pre-made .nif file with NifSkope by adding a texture (which I had made in Photoshop) to the blank gear door and essentially creating a whole new object that was usable by the G.E.C.K. Soon after I learned that this is the "old way of doing things" apparently, and that I could simply re-texture a vault door that was already in the G.E.C.K. with Texture Sets that I could make myself. So, after converting my .psd files into .dds files using DDS Converter 2, I used both the files (vgeardoorR51.psd for "Diffuse" and vgeardoorR51_n.psd for "Normal/Gloss") to make a Texture Set named Vault51GearDoorR. After adding that to the Texture Sets, I went and found a vanilla version of the gear door for Vault 106 that appears in-game (VGearDoorR106) and double-clicked it and clicked "Edit" to edit the model. After finding the 3 main textures for the gear door itself in the model (VGearDoor01b:5- inner front, VGearDoor01b:4- outer front, and VGearDoor01b:0-back), I replaced them all with my custom Texture Set, only to find out that this produces an unwanted result for making my door. Apparently, the "inner front" texture is specifically the circular area in which the vault's number is located, and the "outer front" texture is equivalent to the texture that I replaced it with, since my texture was one for a ruined gear door, but the actual number 51 is blocked by the other texture that holds the number 106. Also, surprisingly enough, the texture for the back of the gear door looks like what I want the front of the door to look like, apart from looking physically different as it sort of caves in. All in all, the "inner front" object/texture/something is essentially blocking my texture for my custom door, and I was wondering if there is something I'm doing wrong, (again, my experience with the G.E.C.K. is pretty much limited to the first and second section of the tutorial for now) or if I can simply delete the "VGearDoor01b:5" object/texture completely and have my new texture for the outer front of the gear door visible since it is no longer blocked. This is the same for the sliding doors as well, as the yellow strip that contains the vault number is separate from everything else. Thanks again, I'm probably just being really nooby :D.

I can also get any screenshots of my results or the method I used if you'd like, I'm too lazy to post any atm .
