Honest Hearts - Who thought of that addon?

Post » Tue Jun 23, 2015 8:10 pm

I completed the NV storyline a while ago (stopped at the battle for the dam) and wanted to to the addons first. I started with Lonesome Road, which was very cool.

Then I wanted to try Honest Hearts, but what kind of addon is this? It all starts with the graphic. Compared to the normal game and LR everything looks... squishy. As if rendering is disabled, I don't know.

Ok, so back to the addon: I reach the canyon. There is an ambush. Everybody dies instantly from a granade and I get a quest "Chaos in Zion". For some reason (that is not explained) I now have to find a map at the other end of the canyon. Ok, so I start walking there. Perhaps something will happen. Most of the time nothing happens. I encounter some wild animals and I find a few cages. Some random tribal people show up and start attacking me. I kill them and continue my journey, still not knowing why. I have nearly reached that point on the worldmap where the map is (the quest objective). I enter a cave. There a lots of tribal people. For some reason, these people do not attack me. I let them be, leave the cave through another entry and get directly to the next cave. Some guy naming white bird living in there. He wants to kill me, so I kill him first. Search his place, find nothing. Leave his cave and reach the marked point for the quest objective. No map there.

There was not one dialog on this whole addon. I have no idea what is going on and why most of the tribal dudes want to kill me but some don't. There is no story, no reason behind this all.

You killed an npc at the beginning that was trying to help you, starts a fast and bloody quest to get out of the dlc. Only way to fix is load previous save.

Just word of advice, do not just shoot everything and everyone you see, just sayin;)

You killed Follows-Chalk.

If you have a save from before you entered the DLC, reload it and play again. This time, though, when the second group of White Legs attacks you, be very careful and look for a friendly tribal named Follows-Chalk - he's wearing a baseball cap with a bunch of decorations on it. Do not shoot him. After the fight go talk to him and you can play the DLC.

I killed no one - I just entered the canyon and got ambushed. Some dude throw a granade right at the start of the fight and all the people I accompanied died instantly. At that moment I got the quest. So this was not suppoed to happen?

Also, there is no save from before. Just using one quicksave slot and that is all I got ;-)

Guess there will be no Honest Hearts DLC for me or is there a way to reset the whole thing?

Also: How do I get the map to get out in the first place? Standing on the marked point but don't see anything :/

IIRC the map is in a pot. Somehow Follows-Chalk got killed, although he doesn't usually show up until after your trading party is wiped out.

Which is a scripted event, that cannot be prevented. Follows-Chalk shows up on the other side of that first bridge.

When the player character kills follows chalk or any other of the friendly npcs, the quest chaos in Zion starts and you essentially failed the main quest for honest hearts.

Follows chalk is very easy to accidentally kill, I did it my first playthrough as well, but knew something was wrong cus I failed a bunch of quests.

I'd suggest reloading a save game and redoing it, otherwise you essentially miss an entire dlc.

somehow Follows-Chalk must have died.

For reports and personal experience, many people confuse him with a White Legs and kills the poor lad without think twice.

As it was not your case, some bug happened.

the only way is to load a previous save.

edit: oh, you have only one quicksave......well, you miss this DLC, like Sentinel says.

The map is in white bird′s cave. If you dont find (some bug) and playing in a console....well, you trapped and loose your entire save.

Well, there goes Honest Hearts for you ...

Lesson for today: learn to do proper saves at important points of the game, like ... when entering a DLC area.

After a while you'll wish you'd "accidentally" killed Follows Chalk. His banter gets old pretty quickly.

The best way to do Chaos in Zion is to set your active quest to something back in the Mojave, that way you do not know where the map is. Then you need to explore the entire area to look for a way out all the while being hunted by everything. It makes for a pretty fun survival experience.
