Question about WeaponsArmors

Post » Thu Jun 25, 2015 9:49 am

So, I started TES with Skyrim, but recently I've developed a keen interest to try Morrowind, as well.

The question I have, is, how does the weapon and armor system work? Is there a smithing skill, like in Skyrim? Or, do you just find/buy all your gear? Can you still enchant?

I usually do a melee build, which, is why I am curious about it.

Haven't bought the game, yet, so try not to dissuade me! :twirl:

In Morrowind, there is an Armorer skill, that you use to repair armors/weapons (using repair hammers), since they degrade when you whack them at enemies / get whacked by enemies. OTOH, you can't use hammers to create your own armor pieces from raw materials. But, if you install the Tribunal expansion, you will find a smith who can craft certain armors if you provide him with the relevant materials and enough gold.

Of course, there are also crafting mods that will allow you to create armors.

As for enchanting, you can do it yourself, or have ot done for you by enchanters NPCs.

There is no smithing skill, so you can't create your own armor. But gear degrades with use and there is a repair skill to maintain it, or you can repair it at vendors. There is also a mod called Morrowind Crafting that lets you craft all sorts of stuff, including weapons and armor.

There is a powerful and diverse enchanting skill. But enchanting is different than Skyrim. It's more about cast on use enchantments and cast on strike than constant effect. You can make constant effect enchantments but it takes a very high skill level that's been fortified by magic.

Ooh, that'll be different, having to repair armor and weapons. Seems much better from an RP perspective. Thanks for the input!

Another difference with enchant is you learn how to do enchantments by learning spells, rather than disenchanting things.

So, if I wanted to enchant Soul Trap, I need to learn the spell? Doesn't sound so bad.

Correct. Same with creating your own versions of spells.

People who have played the newer games, but are just starting Morrowind should check this link for info on how things work: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Differences_Between_Morrowind,_Oblivion,_and_Skyrim

You can do some crazy things with enchant that you could not do in skyrim.

Unfortunately you can't Smith gear, but there is A LOT of gear in the game, and lots of unique enchanted things that are even crazier than anything you can enchant.

That sounds awesome. That's one of the things about Skyrim I found to be odd. Why go out and get a unique weapon when you can surpass anything with you're own weapons?

Yeah what i like about morrowind is the crazy god like enchanted items you can find. There are even a few rare scrolls you can find near seyda neen that boost acrobatics by 1000 points, making you able to jump half way across the island.

Or if you get the wind walk scrolls from the stores, you turn invisible and can fly across the map at super crazy high speeds. Or another personal favourite, the boots of blinding speed (boosts speed an insane amounts, but blinds you completely, unless you got some sort of magic resistance like an Orc or breton does).

Also you can enchant some gear using the souls of real live gods (dont want to ruin it, but you can meet 2 living gods in the game, and can kill them and soul trap them, though the only thing that will take their soul is the azura's star, and then use that soul to make awesome weapons).

Anyway yes, have fun finding all of the crazy gear in game.
