So this is what happens...

when your beloved husband, who is learning French on Duolingo, wishes that he could practice it instead of spending his time playing Skyrim. I suggested that he switch the language option to French & play Skyrim in French. Well, he couldn't figure out how to do that for the main game, but there is a French language option in the DLC. So I deleted the English DLC & installed the French DLC.

He turned on the game, which he had saved just after arriving at Skuldafn. Deleting the English language DLC also deleted everything associated with the DLC, including his Carved Nordic Boots with dual frost & fire protection, his Stalhrim sword with 68 points of frost on it, and his favorite conjuring spells.

He's running around Skuldafn with bare feet.

Oops.

I'm sure that his (only) house, located in Raven Rock, is gone as well, along with everything in it: loads of weapons, smithing materials, a huge store of alchemy ingredients, and tons of filled soul gems.

My name is Mud.

If you were to delete the French version and put back the English one, it might well restore things. The problem, most likely, is that the French names for things don't correspond to what's in his save game. On the other hand, if he has saved his game again since the changes, his save file may be too screwed up to be restored.

Oh, he saved again. He just finished the grand finale. I think that he's done with this character anyway.

What's important here is that your marriage survived this trial - you are stronger for it which is great!

And, I suspect, you now owe him - big time.

Good luck!

I'm gold again! He figured out how to make French the default language in the main game (go to the Systems menu), as well as the DLC, and now he's learning French while enjoying himself in Skyrim. He says that Serana sounds sooooo sixy in French, she more than made up for losing his stuff.

No, this doesn't bother me. Most things sound better in French.

Just a caveat: be sure to load the DLC in the language of your choice BEFORE you start your game.
