The Federalist Tower: A Roleplay Proposal Discussion

Post » Thu Jun 25, 2015 4:54 pm

Welcome to the Federalist Tower, a settlement for only the most deserving, the most intelligent and strong-willed of people. Upon arrival for their orientation, guests are given a folder to read over during their stay at the Federalist Tower, the brochure paper-clipped inside is printed on Pre-War paper with a bold portrait of the tower and reads 'Welcome, Guests, to the Federalist Tower of the Capital Wasteland. Originally named the 'Tenpenny Tower' its name was changed when a savvy citizen by the name of Robert Wick took power upon the untimely death of Allistair Tenpenny. Mr. Wick has ensured the Tower maintained its proper standard of living for all those deserving enough to live here as well as improve it! The hotel features some of the finest comforts in the Wastes. The lobby and shops play soft classical and instrumental musics that delight the ear and are unintrusive to the serenity of our guests. The walls are no longer scavenged rubble but properly sculpted brick by brick to ensure its sturdiness for decades to come! Security and safety of our residents is of the utmost concern and here you will find our security staff, many of whom are former mercenaries, are always alert and always ready to ensure your safety. Weapons are strictly forbidden and kept in a locker guarded by the security team at all times, thus ensuring the safety of both you and your loved ones!' Upon completion of the orientation, the staff member asks the attendees if they have questions.

-----

That's a rough sketch idea for an introduction post, but I want to do a more mundane RP where it's more of a 'day to day' RP with a more free-form story than any solid plot, but I'm unsure how much interest people here might have. I'm right now trying to probe the general interest of the RP forum.

Looks interesting, I may join if there's enough interest...

I'm also doing an RP that's somewhat similair to this... Like yours, it's an RP that will focus on the day to day life of the people in the wasteland rather than a linear story, but half of the players would be refugee residents of a Vault who are new to the wasteland life.

Hope this takes off.

Heh, I hadn't really joined in because I'm already in 2 RPs and I have enough difficulty juggling those two let alone adding a third one. So I think I'll make this my third one since I have a few ideas for this RP.

Heh, that's why I decided to give this a shot. I noticed you were interested and figured if one person (outside me) is interested, maybe others will be intrigued by this. Right now I'm trying to solidify how the RP will work exactly. Things I could really use are guards, maintenance but that's not needed to set off the RP. The guards I don't need so much as I do the tunnels because I want to explore tapping into the metro grid for power. I also just had an interesting idea of making Warrington a 'poor person town' where it's a repaired (more or less) metro station under the rule of Tenpenny Tower. As you mentioned, it'd help explore an interesting class dynamic.

I liked the idea of a Tenpenny Tower RP, mainly in playing a security guard of some sort, so jot me down for a measure of interest in this.

Noted, Ranger.

To anyone reading, I'd also like to note that with the exception of the Federalist Lounge and the Cafe Beau Monde, the other shops have potential to be taken over by an original character if you'd prefer to be a shop owner.

I think that's a good idea. I always liked the concept of Tenpenny Tower having a sort of "shanty town" outside of it, where residents that couldn't afford to actually live in the tower went.

Makes the Tower more believable too, since there would then be a working class that would produce the food, raise brahmin, hunt and scavenge etc. Rather than just being a tower full of stuffy rich people with no apparent means of sustaining themselves other than through caravan trade.

I like the idea and I am thinking of playing a poor person, trying to work her way up, to live in the tower. What are the tests or requirements to get in?

Do you need to have a lot of caps or something? Maybe I'm reviving my lounge singer, who hit a streak of bad luck. Hmm, are there any lounges in Washington? LOL

To have the money (The way most get in) or have an invaluable skillset like being a guard or electrician/engineer. But the guards sleep in a room with bunks and lockers. Engineers get given a small room but it's to themselves. But they get security from the Wastes and clean water in their bathroom tap (All residents pay for their food). The idea of the tower is anyone can make it there as long as they can prove their merit or their wallet. Mr.Wick is as reclusive as Tenpenny, but he values merit over wealth so he tends to quietly cut deals with the peoples who worked their way into the tower.

I'd be interested in joining. I think this would do well as a substitute for something like the Warren, that MrSmileySmile and I, talked a bit about.

Unless someone else has more interest in the position, I wouldn't mind making a character as Head of Security, to help give it more of that militaristic vibe and order, someone like Tenpenny and now Mr. Wick would appreciate.

I wouldn't call it military per se. They're more akin to security guards or police officers than a military force. They have the private security combat armour as they have in Fallout 3 and they carry Assault Rifles, Pistols and Shotguns, but their operation would be more in line with security since this won't be a wild expansionist RP.

As it stands now I've made:

Federalist Tower: A tower heralding itself a beacon for all those who succeed in the world and strive to put their skills to use. It provides the very best in comfort, security and serenity.

Warrington: A Metro Station converted into a town since the Warrington Incident a few years back. Warrington is, by Wastelander standards, quite comfortable. The main platform is used as a marketplace and general 'town square' where they can gather and relax when they aren't working (Most work in the station being restoration and rubble movement by Mr. Wick.) Unlike the Tower, Warrington has no restrictions of caps or talent so long as you are willing to follow the town's rules. The Station Manager oversees the day to day, ensuring the town is run smoothly for Mr. Wick. Many are content to work and live in their shacks because, much like the tower, they are kept secure from the harshness of the Wastes and they are able to buy modest food (at fair prices so they can still live off their work salaries), but others resent the sight of the Federalist so close to them, feeling they deserve to be in there as well. The generator section of the city is explicitly off-limits and one needs a high level security clearance (Personally granted by Mr.Wick via paperwork) to be permitted. The guards enforce a strict shoot-to-kill policy on any would be saboteurs who attempt to bypass security clearance points.

(Tenpenny Tower has, for most intents and purposes, not really changed much socially. The only difference is better walls and new more fair owner, otherwise things are fairly status quo)

Yeah, I wasn't thinking militaristic in the sense that they're looking to expand the territory of the Federalist Tower, or something like that. I was thinking more like military police, to frontline soldiers. They keep the peace most of the time, but know what to do if someone attacks. Defense, more so than offense.

They would be militaristic in the sense that they have a clear understanding of authority, who they take orders from and whatnot, and how to enforce the laws/rules of the Federalist Tower. They have protocols/plans in place for situations that may or may not arise, but not something like how best to attack and occupy a settlement, or things a non-frontline soldier would know best.

Well, for punishment, I'm sure the RobCo plant would make a suitable prison for long-term sentences, but for a simple drunk tank, I'm sure the Federalist and Warrington would both have a secure room they detain people in for a few hours or so. But I was thinking perhaps the Train Yard would be suitable to run drills, the tunnels would be suitable to make small shack residences and Warrington Station is a trading/business hub of the station and its tunnels. Gustavo (or whoever, don't really care if you use an OC) are in direct command but they are under the employ of Mr. Wick, who has drastically improved their living conditions, for example, putting them in barracks style quarters above the lobby in those rooms. Not only does this give the guards direct access to the lobby for trouble, but it also gives them more of a morale boost since they aren't treated as 'the help' like in Fallout 3. It's basically one of Mr. Wick's subtle ways of enforcing his elusive control. He sees a lot himself, via installed security cameras in Warrington Station and the Tower (Maybe the prison if we roll with this. We'll see.). He doesn't put them in living quarters of either residences, giving his citizens privacy behind closed doors, but in public he quietly watches his people. He's not 24/7 glued to his monitors, but I'll shed light on him and his character during the RP. But he mostly lives exclusively in the Penthouse level forcing the other top floor tenants down a level or two for, in his words, security purposes. Overall he's more of a businessman than a leader, running his settlements like companies more than cities.

My prattling aside, you're right on how it's structured. It's entirely defensive unless it's the patrols keeping the overworld between the Federalist Tower and Warrington free of danger.

I was planning on doing a security guard as well. Someone who resents the rich they protect, but enjoys the safety and benefits the tower provides so they refuse to leave. If there are going to be too many guards though I can change my plan. Although I'm curious about the guard's quarters. Do they have their own homes, perhaps in Warrington? Or do they live in a barracks? Just curious.

I'll probably play a businessman of some stripe. I'm thinking perhaps someone who wheels and deals with the caravaners to secure goods for the Tower perhaps.

I'm interested as well. I was originally planning on being a security guard, but since there are so many, I'll probably go for one of the residents instead.

Would a fairly well-known doctor be acceptable as a resident, assuming he was wealthy enough to be a resident? I was thinking of bringing back Doc Henderson from the Epidemic of the West RP you created a while back I really like that character and he'd be perfectly with the stuffy attitude most residents would likely possess.
