Oblivion in 4k resolution!

Post » Sat Jun 27, 2015 7:24 am

Hello guys and gals!

I wanted to share this little video I made. It shows off Oblivion with many graphical mods and enhancements in 4k resolution. That's 2160p, 3840 x 2160. Very crisp. It was recorded in 4k, so even if you watch it in 1080p60, it will still be a much crisper and nicer picture than if I had recorded in standard HD.

If you can, watch in 4k res. The difference is astounding. The game really looks great with these mods. Check it out!

I don't usually use graphics mods, but this looks very nice. I had to laugh at the little "incident" outside Sideways Cave. Yep, that's Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, alright! The Imperial Isle is not a safe place with that mod installed. :)

Thanks a lot for sharing that. It's great to see the way other people's games look.

Nice. Unfortunately, I am at work now and can't view it at anything better than 720, but I think I recognize some of the visual mods that I am using like Oblivion Grass Overhaul and QTP3, but I am using the 2k version of QTP3-R and I play at 1080 resolution. Looks like pretty good framerates in the video, but I wonder what the 4k resolution would do to framerates if you added Better Cities and UL?

Thanks for the comments!

Turija, I'm not sure. I am getting over 60 FPS with all this stuff enabled, so it's been great. However, the ENB I tried would knock down the FPS to 49-50 at times when outdoors in "busy" areas, so I don't use it. What is UL? I will check out Better Cities as well.

UL - Unique Landscapes.

Better Cities adds a lot of NPSs and can significantly impact FPS. But it makes the cities much more interesting.

Nice video. I could only watch at 720p (youtube did not give me an option for 1080p). What graphics card do you have?

The option for 1080p60 and 4k isn't activated on this video yet. It usually takes a few hours to a whole day to activate, so check back later if you want to see it in higher def.

I am using a Geforce 970 graphics card. It's running things pretty well with the exception of the ENB that knocked the FPS down a tad.

I just installed Better Cities and Oh my! Looks amazing. Doesn't seem to impact the FPS too bad, and I even set them all to open cities. I have to explore it more and see how it turns out.

Unique Landscapes is another one I plan on adding. I didn't even realize there were *this* many good mods for this game. Unreal. Can't wait to check 'em all out!

I'll post more videos displaying them in 4k as time goes on. =)

Strike that - I can't run Better Cities without dipping into the mid-20s and 30s FPS, and that's not something I want to do. I will check out Unique Landscapes. Hopefully that one isn't as massive as Better Cities.

That's pretty much my experience as well. I can run in the 40s away from cities but it drops to 20-30 in many areas of the cities and that's with 2k textures. My graphics card is a little older than yours but it's no slouch. I've got a 780ti. And a 3.4 ghz 4670k i-5 processor.

It's unfortunate, because Better Cities looked *amazing*. I could easily get lost in those cities, but I guess it is not to be this time around.

Is UL a bit easier on the framerate?

I run them together and I get better FPS in areas affected by UL than Better Cites, but there are some areas affected by both, like outside Bravil that can slow down a bit. If I had to guess, I'd say that with a good GPU, Better Cities is the bigger FPS hit of the two because it bogs down the CPU with all the AI processing.

Only watched a little bit at 1080p since I'm kind of busy right now. So far, I'm amazed at seeing a somewhat modded Oblivion at constant 60 FPS. That's not something my mod setup allows me to experience, unfortunately, so this was rather refreshing.

Might I suggest http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45749/? (I'm assuming you don't have it installed)? It's a lot less FPS intensive than ENB, especially if you use its built in Framerate Manager. If you ever wanted post process effects like Ambient Occlussion, Bloom, Depth of Field, etc without resorting to something as taxing as ENB, I highly recommend Oblivion Reloaded. In my rather unimportant opinion, it is one of the best mods to ever grace Oblivion. As soon as Alenet implements the new shadow shaders, my game will look fantastic and I can finally ditch ENB for good.
