No Resolution in Game Options

I brought Skyrim last year and have played it for over 117 hours on steam with no problems. However I stopped playing it after downloading a new game. Last week i tried loading it up to play, to be confronted by a pop-up saying... "Failed to initialize renderer. Your display doesn't support the selected resolution. Please set a different resolution in Skyrim's Launcher under 'Display Settings' ". I then went to change it in the options, to see no resolutions come up. I ticked the box reading 'Show all Resolutions', however none still came up; I then ticked the box 'windowed Mode' which made some resolutions come up, however the game would still not launch, as it came up with the message 'Windowed Mode unable to be read by the adapter'.

I was wondering if any of you have had this problem, and if so could tell me how to fix it.

Thanks:
