This is a rough idea I had for a plot for a elder scrolls ga

This is a rough idea.

What if the oblivion crisis wasn't fate ? What if the great war between the thalmor and the empire was based on a lie ?
After the events in skyrim war broke out across the whole of tamriel. Brother against brother, father's against sons. War would forever scar the idea of one empire. Or would it ?

The oblivion gates held more secrets than man or mer could ever imagined. Dagons invasion was not the only thing that came through the gates, but the whispers of false prophecy that would shape the future of tamriel forever. Man and mer alike had a belief that the war on the empire was based on ideas of false gods. This was not true. The sinister messages that crept from oblivion set the thalmor war machine in motion.

Decades of fighting left all of tamriel weak and desperate so in one final attempt the arcane university and the collage of winterhold struck a deal. A moth priest discovered instructions in a elder scroll how o build a weapon that would take the power of all elven kind thus ending the bloody war of tamriel.
Finally the time came. The archmage of the university released the weapon but it did not end they way the remnants of the empire hoped.

A huge beam of light ripped open the skies and for a moment there was silence. Man and mer across all the lands stood still as they watched meteors rain down from the heavens.
The silence. The dust . the smoke from flame eventually cleared. All these events shaped and lead to this day. Fear washed over tamriel like a plague. The time had come and the plan worked perfectly. Now all of tamriel faced a common enemy.

THE DWEMER HAD RETURNED !

Sounds pretty terrible, I'm sorry. The Dwemer unmade themselves.

And seriously, the returning bogeyman storyline is overused. We've already had the long dead Dragons return, now The Dwemer?

And Super weapons? Really?

It is a rough idea and I was told I should share it on this forum. It's an outline. There's really no need to be so offensive

It's just a rough idea. I received an email from Bethesda recommending I share it on this forum. There's no need to be offensive about it

How would you explain the people accepting to use a weapon that will take away the power (Instakill?) from all elven kind? It would not only affect the Altmer, but also the Dunmer and Bosmer, and possibly the Bretons who are half man, half mer(elf). Sounds like a large risk to use a weapon that might in the end take out half of Nirn's population.

What do you think?

The actual idea is that it doesn't work it was a trick used to open a gateway for the dwemer
The belief was supposed to be that it was one last attempt to end war

Yes, but if they knew it was a trick they would not bother building the weapon, right? They chose to build it because they thought it was going to work. Why did they decide such a possible sacrifice would be worth it?

Like I said this is a rough idea..... It is open for people to add or develop the idea. I hope there are some like minded people who share my interest in the dwemer. I know some may say they are dead but there are in game books that open the idea that they were banished from tamriel by azura, I wanted to know other views :-)

They didn't know it was a trick until it tore open the sky that's when they realise they had made a mistake.
The sacrifice is huge I know but as I've previously said its kind of a last resort that they foolishly used

If that's how Bethesda would reintroduce the dwemer, I'd never buy one of their games again. :P

Well if your going to base your loyalty to a company based on a "rough idea " then that's up to you.

It supposed to be a rough outline so other which is open to development

The rough outline is all I can base my opinion on, and this one is not terribly creative. The whole concept of bringing the dwemer back makes me shrivel, and their current writers couldn't handle something like that, it would most probably end up feeling cheesy and cheap. But that's just my opinion, and as dirty Harry would say- "Opinions are like ass holes, everyone has one".

I suppose that sounds reasonable.

I am also wondering about that second paragraph in your opening post. Are you saying that while the Oblivon Crisis was happening, something (or someone) makes people believe that in the future there will be a religious war?

I do understand what you are saying, its an open idea. I personally would love to see something of the dwemer ( that's just my opinion ) sometimes it seems we are teased with mysteries of them but are given very little. I know that's part of the charm of the dwemer but in my opinion something really exciting could happen with them also

If Bethesda could pull of something absolutely mind blowing it's not like I'd hate the idea. But with the main quests we got in the last two main titles, I think I'm safe to say they'd mess it up. Perhaps hand it to whoever's responsible for occasionally really fun guilds/side quests. :P

You make a awesome point, personally I'd love to see something with a morrowind kind of feel as I've always thought that story had real depth and seemed to rely heavily on the elder scrolls lore..... Oblivion and skyrim I did enjoy but they seemed to lack the epic plot morrowind had
