Older games on upgraded PC? - self build

Post » Sat Jul 04, 2015 4:13 am

Hi, I'm looking into getting new hardware to be able to play the newer games, plus the stuff in computer is 7/8 yrs old now. Also, I want to get the PC ready before Windows 10 starts rolling out. I'll be keeping W7 on a separate HD.

1. A few questions; With an upgraded CPU, M/board and graphics card, will I still be able to play the older games, such as Morrowind and Oblivion?

2. I don't know if I'll go with an Intel Core i5 or i7, the i7's are so expensive. So, it's a Intel Core i5 4690 K, or a Intel Core i7 4790 K. There is a good bit of difference in price though. Would it be better to splash out on the i7 in the long run though?

3. The graphics card; I'm thinking of the NVidia GTX 970, has anybody got good or bad experience with this? I personally don't care if the card is AMD Radion or NVidia, just whatever works well.

It may sound daft but question 1 is pretty important to me, I really wouldn't want to not be able to play the older games once MS does away with Windows 7.

Any comments and help is very welcome!

1. Well, I can play Oblivion and Morrowind fine with an AMD FX-6300 and R9 270 if that's any help.

2. I believe an i7 would be a bit overkill. An i5 sould suffice for gaming.

3. I'm not too familiar with Nvidia cards, but I think a GTX 970 should be ok. (not necessary if you're just playing older games though)

Hope I helped! :D
