Windows 10, is it worth upgrading?

I am on Windows 7 currently. Is it worth upgrading to 10 for any reason. I use my computer mainly for gaming. Currently playing Fallout NV and Fallout 3 in hype for Fallout 4

Does Windows 10 offer any kind of meaningful upgrade?

There is certainly no rush for you to upgrade, if you are happy with Windows 7 then stay with it for a while, you can upgrade free for up to one year following the Win 10 release at the end of this month. it also gives you a bit of time to get other peoples opinions on Windows 10.

Someone did some testing over at the ESO boards and he claimed he saw better Multicore performance as far as balance goes with the load on each core. He also some improved frame rates on that game.

However the earlier fallout out games are more dual core or threaded than multicore or threaded. So, for that alone, no reason to upgrade. The biggest issue with being an early adopter are the driver packages. They usually take a few months after OS release to be fully fleshed out and make the whole process of upgrading worth it.

I plan on keeping W7 on my gaming rig for about a year after the OS release. It may get installed sooner, but I kept XP until 2013, so it's not like I am in a hurry to upgrade an OS. As long as I can install and launch games, the OS is meaningless to me.

This is hard to say, it does to me, maybe not for you. I'd look up the features and decide if it is worth upgrading for you.

From what I tried of the Windows 10 previews. I say it is absolutely worth it to switch to Windows 10. Windows 10 is faster than Windows 7 even Windows 8.1 and you will get the benefit of DirectX 12 soon for PC versions of video games that will start supporting DirectX 12 soon.

DirectX 12 will offer more draw calls than previous versions of DirectX's. Better multicore threading as well.
