Here's the pitch: I'm looking to create a functioning private library within Skyrim, something along the lines of the Vatican Archives. The idea would be to, through a process of gaining favor, gain access to a library that one can have free access to while making it difficult to steal books from the collection. Now while the process of procuring favor and gaining access to restricted sections can be handled simply enough through quests, I'm unsure of how to best handle the functions of the library, which I presume are going to be entirely scripted. I am almost wholly unfamiliar with scripting, so I submit to your expertise on how to proceed further.
The following ideas are all a part of the functionality I would like to see.
1. Being able to request a librarian to fetch books on a certain subject, to be delivered to a desk and/or lectern.
2. With the correct permissions, being able to have full access to the collection without being accosted, while being unable to leave the premises easily with the books in your inventory.
3. Setting up a fluid and simple way for honored library members to borrow books, along with penalties for overdue or lost (never returned, I mean) books.
As I have said, I am wholly unfamiliar with scripting, but I'd still like recommendations on how I can approach these goals. That way, through either self-education or through requesting help from a veteran script writer, I can have a clear idea on what needs done and how to best go about it.
Thanks!
