What is your build and why?

Post » Fri Jul 10, 2015 10:46 pm

Just say what you call it, the skills, and why that build.

1) Orsimer Cleric of Malakath

1h weapons, block, heavy armor, archery, restoration, and smithing.

I choose that build because I love healer like characters on other games and it just seemed to click with how I played that Orc.

2) Redguard Arcane Enchanter

Enchantment, Alchemy, Alteration, Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration

As a mage, I like having a versatile spell list. That way, I have a spell for any occasion. Plus, those are what I tend to gravitate to.

I play a mage and use whatever spells will cause maximum mayhem; anything ranging from spells that turn enemies against each other, to summoning spells and massive fire bombs.

Bard/ Assassin

Speech/ 1h, archery, light armor ( she wears about 1/2 cloth ) sneak.

It seemed like it would be a very fun way to do a DB with a character that was more RP than just going out and killing people. So far it's a blast, even though she is not yet a member of either the Bard's college or DB at lvl 10, just a traveling minstrel atm.

Nord/DragonbornWarrior

2handed weapon, heavy armor, block, sneak, restoration

I always enjoy the role of the warrior, nothing against mages and magic but i prefer striking down my enemies with either my steel fists or removing heads with my blade. And when faced with large groups of enemies i call upon Odahviing, my loyal dragon.

Light armour scout, bow and dagger girl. Pretty Nord. Little low level magic later in the game.
Starts off heroic as the DB, gradually corrupted by power and joining the Dark Brotherhood to learn who put a contract on her. Sinks into lower levels of depravity and wretchedness before finding salvation, repenting her sins and emerging once more as a good girl by the late game. DiD player on Legendary.......so never reached that far (yet).

Buffy is a Bosmeri Mystic Archer.

She is small, frail and physically weak – that is what drives her ‘build’. Skilled with a bow, she is too weak to be effective with either melee or any significant amount of armor. She is not even effective with heavier tools like wood or pick axes. And she certainly lacks the strength to use any smithing equipment. Therefore, she relies on magic to back up her bow. Happily, her bow is a special one that has a spiritual link to her – the bow actually helps her with its heavy draw allowing the weak elf to manage its very powerful nature.

Because of who and what she is, her skills have developed as follows: Archery (damage), sneak (remain undected), illusion (mind control spells), conjuration (modified mystic bow), alteration (detect life), speechcraft (just cuz).

Although she would disagree, I enjoy the challenge of a 'glass cannon' who has zero ability to use melee weaponry. I like to say she can strike like a dragon. . . or crumple like a butterfly.

I'm currently playing a female Dremora who was http://ghastley.org/Oblivion/Docs/Prizna.html. She primarily uses Shock spells, but is capable with two-handed weapons in case she runs out of magicka. Uses Alteration spells instead of armour, and is currently doing the College of Winterhold quests, so she can have http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/62721 I made as an alternative to the Archmage's robes.

Made her to model the horns.

My top 2.

1) Assassin/Conjuror.

Sneak for damage mulitpliers (melee, archery, and daggars),

Atronauchs for back-up/tanks.

Usually get them to about 150 health and stamina, the rest in magicka.

Crarfting: Smithing (for weapons), Alchemy (for poisons AND restoratives), and Enchanting (for that extrta oomph!) :)

2) All around Mage.

So many wonderful spells in the various schools of magic.

Almer works well for this with their "instant mana refill" daily ability. Bretons are also well suited, hanks to Dragonskin.

Conjuration: Bound weapons. Atronauchs.

Restoration: Healing. Mana regen. Wards.

Illusion: Quiet Casting. Frenzy. Invisibility.

Destruction: Fire. Shock. Ice (on occasion).

Alteration: Light spells. Skin spells, if a robe wearer.

This build takes a long while to get set-up, so it keeps the game "interesting" longer :)

Argonian dragonborn warrior

Heavy armor, Two handed, block, speech and smithing.

I always find playing warriors so much fun, Cannot really describe why.

I also like the challenge of not using restoration magic i see many implement in their warrior builds, aswell as not using any kind of ranged weapons. It makes fights more fun, As i have to play smart and use shouts effectively to deal with archers/mages.

Only problem I have is when fighting dragons and they cannot find any suitable place to land. :wallbash:

A point I missed: I never name a "build". All my characters are themselves, and reject labels and other straight-jackets. I would be playing another game if I wanted classes and "builds".

I use almost the same build since Morrowind, as my character "is" the same. He is a Redoran Dunmer, so he mostly uses Heavy (Medium) armor, One handed (long and blunt), shield, a bow (this one I strted using because of the cliff racers haha and it remained) , and in the magic side just restoration. I called the class "Knight of Azura" back in time. It also had atlhetics and spear, but well.

My current play through which I'm greatly enjoying;

Breton Nightblade

Major skills: sneak - illusion - one handed
Minor skills: conjuration - alteration - light armor
Dabbles in restoration and of course lock picking (dexterity in my game - PerMa)

Relies on sneak attacks with his bound sword to dispatch enemies quietly. He will also cast fury spells silently from the shadows. If things start to get ugly, he will summon an atronach for backup. Major weakness is no ranged attack, so dragons are always an adventure especially with Deadly Dragons. Overall, a very versatile character without being a jack of all trades.

He currently just bound his service to Nocturnal and became guilds master of the Thieves Guild. Next step will be eradicating those damned vampires he's running into all over the place. Maybe go talk to this so called Dawnguard...

Many would probably call him a spellsword. I call him Grayson. 1h, light armor, destruction and conjuration. A little bit in archery and restoration.

I created him because I wanted to try a light warrior type that relies a little more on offensive magic, not just restoration. He also doesn't lean heavily on crafting and that has made his coin pouch a little lighter than my other characters that do focus on a craft or two.

I'm currently messing around with an "un-build." (I don't do "builds," either, Ghastley. :) ) I occasionally do "un-builds" to challenge the roleplay limits of TES games. These "un-builds" are heavily gimped or restricted characters, designed to force a creative approach to navigating the games.

Lola the Low-Life Khajiit: An experimental character to test the boundaries of low-level gameplay. The idea is to see at how low a level one can manage Skyrim's main quest.

Lola uses as few "Skills" as possible. Lola uses Claws, potions, and whatever staffs she can pick up as loot. She doesn't pick locks or pockets (her Momma taught her that thievery was bad, and the reason other races mistrust Khajiiti.) She will use Alchemy only to make basic Healing and Curing potions. She rarely sneaks. She uses no magic, doesn't enchant or smith anything, and wears no armor.

The idea here is to employ, as much as possible, the things the game provides which don't contribute to skill improvement, thus keeping the character at low level. This is not the same as just not leveling, because Lola will level up whenever she attains it.

I don't do "builds" either. I create characters, and my characters may identify with a certain class or profession that may affect what types of weapons and armor they use, whether they use weapons and armor at all, whether they use magic, and if so what types.

My current character is a Nord barbarian, who mostly uses 2H weapons, light armor and when necessary, he uses a bow. He also does some smiting and alchemy, though not many perks there.

Why did I pick this? Well, I wanted a simple character to test my load order. I had no intention of playing him very long, as he was just a test character, but the load order went together quickly without issues and I ended up really enjoying playing him, so he is going to be a long term character. 120 hours so far.

He ended up doing some homesteading near Falkreath. At first, he just bought the land so he could build a smelter, since there is no freaking smelter anywhere near Falkreath/Riverwood (Bethesda why did you skimp so on smelters?!?). After building a smelter, he decided it would be warmer to sleep inside the cabin and now he is growing soft, sleeping in a warm bed all the time.

As he gets older and softer, he realized he might need to be more flexible about using a little magic, so he's picked up a couple spells here and there and now can cast a simple healing spell and a simple spell that lets him jump down to a safe landing spot. He hasn't put any perks into magic skills yet, and with my mods, it takes all his magicka just to cast healing once. So, he is not by any means a mage, but just this little bit of magic means he can go deeper into dungeons without running out of healing potions (no health regen in my game, not even when resting).

So, he's becoming more of a ranger than a true barbarian, with all the sleeping in soft beds and even using a little magic, but he views it as evolving rather than just getting old and soft. And he quickly learned that he would need to evolve to survive against mages and vampires . . .
