Combat enhanced question... about difficulty sliders...

Post » Sun Jul 12, 2015 2:27 am

As you can see here http://aerelorn.fr.yuku.com/topic/171/Difficulty-sliders#.VaDFx_mgTOA(Morrowind Enhanced official forums) in 2004 a user asked what the difficulty sliders (set in the MWE launcher) affected: NPCs, creatures, or both?

The answer came from the man himself, the creator of the Enhanced series of plugins, who said: "Creatures and NPCs".

My tests ingame seem to indicate that only NPCs are affected.

Is it because I should regenerate a Mashed lists.esp (and maybe even regenerate Merged objects.esp?)?

Or Aerelorn is wrong? Trust me, creatures are not affected in my game if I set their health to be 2.5 times their original one, or 5 times, or whatever setting.

Hope someone can help.

I doubt that merged lists/objects would have any effect on this. Perhaps it has something to do with the NPC/Creature having autocalc enabled. That setting seemed to have some similar issues in the recent MWSE changes. It may also be worth checking to see if NPCs with non-unqiue IDs are all affected (like guards).

Off I go, checking guards health. They have more than 200 health. So I'll test how many 30damage shots I have to inflict them before they die, and then with 5x MWE health setting.

Ok, tested with console command gethealth after selecting a guard.

It seems it really detects its max health.

Anyway, what's important to notice is that it does work with guards too, not only normal NPCs.

With 5x health in MWE launcher, gethealth reports more than 1100 HP; whereas, with 1x health setting, it reports 210+ HP.

On a side note, MWE launcher settings really work on the fly (I had MW in windowed mode, and I changed MWE settings on the fly).

Oh, but I should say that my guards' ID started with NX9.... so I guess it is Nazo's mod!

What if I try and spawn a dreamer?

There are 36 NPCs in Morrowind with that ID.

Off I try.

Then I'll try with an NPC with Autocalculated enabled and with one without that setting.

Is it ok?

Thanks, of course.

If it works on one guard it'll most likely work on any NPC.

Aerelorn never made MWE open source so it's hard to know the inner workings. 95% of the features (+ more) are covered by MWSE now though, so IMO it should be mostly phased out before long.
