Am I the only one who runs into frequent problems when conjuring atronachs?

Often, I'll find myself casting "Conjure Flame Atronach" multiple times before the spell actually connects and summons the damn thing.

What causes this? I'm gathering the Atronach needs to have flat ground to be summoned on, but the criteria seems awfully precise. Is there any way to avoid this?

The distance from you that the atronach can be cast is determined by your perks. The starting distance is quite short. If your crosshair appears red, you're trying to cast the spell too far away from you.

I'm aware of that, that isn't the issue.

Even when the crosshair is white, signaling it's okay to summon, I'll have to cast it more than once for my portal to appear and spawn the atronach.

are you wearing something enchanted with Spell Absorption?

if so, it can negate conjuration spells

Oh you know what..... I recently took The Atronach as my birth stone, which is of course more magicka pooled and spell absorption. Funnily enough, I've noticed these problems recently. After I took that birth stone.
