My idea for how current members can claim the same username: All current members should be given early access to the new forums and there should be a way on this forum to dispute if someone steals your username on the new forum.

Request the old forum is kept open for a while after the new forums open, so that there is some overlap :

Reason - So that anyone who has had their ID used by someone else has a way of contacting staff and proving who they are, complaining to staff via their old account.

Possibly for a month of overlap ?

Edit : Already suggested in the OP

GStaff said the old forums will not be locked for some time at least while the new Forums are migrating, so we'll still have this here to contact Mods.

Will we get notified in our Emails of the new sight?
