Quick question:Dungeon Siege 12 worth buying on Steam sale?

Post » Thu Aug 20, 2015 2:00 pm

Currently, Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 are on heavily discounted sale on Steam (cost around $1.75).

I read the reviews on the series. The general consensus is that Dungeon Siege 1/2 are mediocre, unremarkable Diablo knockoffs with a twist - you get to command a group of characters... which is good because the Steam versions disable the multiplayer mode.

Just wanted to get some quick advice: Are those games worth buying at that price, or should I save my money? I would rather not throw away a few dollars on a lousy game, but the reviews also mentioned that the storyline on each of those games is perhaps 40-60 hours - might be worth it even if the games are mediocre.

The sale expires in roughly 14 hours (from the time of this post)

The games are good but do they come with the expansions. Especially for the second game.

But with the games being around $2 they are worth it. I might check it out since I have not played those 2 games in a long time.

The third one is not that good.

I liked #1. It's simple, fast-paced and fun. It uses a skill-use leveling system that is similar to the one used by the Elder Scrolls (which is a plus for me). And although it is linear, it feels like an open-world game because there are almost no loading screens.

I didn't like #2 quite as much as I liked #1. I had no interest whatsoever in buying #3, so I cannot comment on that.

I loved Dungeon Siege 1, ended up making 3 Siegelets for it.

I would recommend grabbing them, too. I had loads of fun in Dungeon Siege 1, but that was 10(?) years ago. Dungeon Siege 2 was also fun for me and the graphics will be better for today's equipment.

If you enjoy TES and the FO series, you may enjoy these 2 old gems :)

I really enjoyed 1 and 2, spend a long time with them, and why not? They are pretty cheap!

3 is horrible, don't touch 3.

Hmm, as I understand it, 3 is the one more like Diablo/ARPGs. More action-y, more grindy, more loot, control a single character with a controller. The originals only have a certain amount of enemies, right? So you need to be careful with your leveling & skills, since there's only so much XP to be had? Plus all the "micromanage a party of up to 8" thing.
