A dream for the next creation kit

It would be terrific if you could have portals like room portals set up in pairs that you could place anywhere so that a character looking at one portal would see what could be seen as if standing at the other. A window from an interior cell to the outside. A heck of a thing to program but I would love it.

Not sure if the engine would even support something like that. I'm not sure any engine could actually. Even Fallout 4 couldn't support this.

It would be far easier having everything as a isingle world instead of having buildings as separate interior cells. But that has it's own problems regarding physics and loose items.

Didn't Portal do that? I know I've seen it before.

It might have been a proof-of-concept piece someone made when I was messing around with Ogre, years ago.

Why not have the possibility of generating a complete set of portals and roombounds for the cell, automatically, by pressing one icon that would read "Generate portals and roombounds for the cell"?

just had a look into the potential future and read through a couple examples of the zillions of "room bound generation f*d up my cell!"-threads:

doesn't pay :-)

edit: but hey, i've seen the future, and it will be. i've seen the future, and it works. in this life after, we will see that we can't go like jerks :-)

I thought the OP was about portals to view other places, not "the next room", which is the current meaning of portal, not to be confused with portals that transport you, either.

I'd rather have mirrors, first. At least everything seen is in the scene already, so it's a bit easier (?)

That would require loading/rendering both scenes, which is exactly the same as having your interior space literally built in the exterior worldspace, which Skyrim couldn't handle due to last gen.

They said Fallout 4 had a far higher percentage of in-world interiors, so this should be less necessary then.

Not just that but Portal allowed physics to work across them and they could be placed on a great many surfaces of the players choice.
