Installing game remotely

Post » Thu Aug 27, 2015 10:36 am

I was given the physical version of GTA V as a gift, however as my primary PC is now a laptop without an optical drive(!!! who thought this was a good idea?!?!?!) I have been unable to install it. I'm currently back at home and wondering if I can use the primary homegroup PC to remotely install the game on my laptop?

I'm testing it out with Morrowind atm, but this might not be ideal because of compatibility issues (laptop is running windows 10) and Morrowind requires disc in to play. Does anyone know if this will work or if its a good idea?

first, are you sure your laptop can handle GTAV? GTAV has some rather high system reqs, and when you say your going to play it on a laptop without an Optical Drive I picture those small rather cheap netbooks, most of which I highly doubt would handle GTAV..

either way, if you don't have an optical drive i would suggest you pick up a USB DvD drive.. while it may not be ideal, you will probably find it good to have around in the long run..

You can share an optical drive through a network. On the host computer, right-click on the optical drive, and navigate to Share With...

This should allow you to install a game from a disc, but will most likely will not work if a game requires the disc for DRM.

A USB or eSATA external drive would also work.
