PC Gamer's Top 100 list opinions?

Post » Sun Sep 06, 2015 8:19 am

Don't know if anyone else noticed or not but PC gamer did another top 100 list once again and I thought some other people here might find it intriguing enough to read. I already went through it myself and there's quite a handful of Bethesda games on the list.

I, myself, usually ain't a huge fan of these lists (as a lot of times, they don't do it right) but I always enjoy reading them anyways.

Also, what edits would you make to this list if you could? Or what would be some of your tops?

What would doing it right be?

As they say its subjective.

As usual I don't rate most of the games they like but since I only like a couple of genres and dislike most of the games in those genres thats not surprising.

New Vegas is in the top 10 and Fallout 3 isn't (it's 39th)

I agree with it, but that's controversial and may lead to aghast for many

There's quite a few discombobulating choices; such as Alien: Isolation at 19th and Dishonored at 6th.I like both games, but to suggest they're among the absolute apex of games on PC (ever ?) is surprising.

Edit:

I have to say the Fallout series is doing well from what I've seen:

Fallout 44th

Fallout 3 39th

Fallout: New Vegas 10th

Also does anyone else find it odd that both Oblivion and Morrowind are rated among the 60 - 70 range yet Skyrim is 5th?

Honestly, I have no idea. It's really hard to think of a proper way of doing this without making it unfair... A list like this is too general and diverse to do. Now it would much easier to do something like "Top 10 First-Person Shooters", since most FPS games follow the same/similar set of rules, making them all easy to compare and anolyze...

Not that odd, they say "This year, we're stressing 'play'. With a handful of exceptions, every game on the list is one that you can access and enjoy today." which makes Skyrim a better option for the gamer of today, not necessarily the best TES.

Ascendancy should be number one. Why? Because I love that game, that's all the reason that's needed. :D

Seriously though, some games really stand the test of time.

All I can say is, I can't make a better list. Not because I don't completely agree with the list, but I just don't want to make a better list.

Had some of the classics up there: Doom, Day of the Tentacle, etc. I'm surprised only Civ V made the list (4 is my favorite and I thought was great).

Surprised no Quake title made the list. That really shocked me.

No Dark Forces/Jedi Knight titles?

Heroes of M&M III - never played it, but I played II and absolutely loved it. Wish I would have continued with the series.

None of the classics from Sierra Entertainment? No Space Quest, Quest for Glory, King's Quest, Police Quest?

Didn't see one JRPG...I could have missed it, but I didn't see one. Correct me if I'm wrong....but that seems wrong. I think I'm wrong on this though...

A generally safe, predictable and agreeable list for the most part. The only things I really disagree with are when they choose weaker entries in a franchise at the expense of some of the stronger ones. Total War, Diablo and Starcraft for example. Although given that accessibility is a key factor in their rankings, it's understandable.

As far as what I'd personally change, I'd cut out a few of the redundant choices to add some slightly different experiences. For example, we don't really need both Fallout 3 and New Vegas in there, if you play the latter then the only thing you miss of the former is the story.

I'd have liked to have seen:

Homeworld - No other RTS has done 3d space strategy anything like it

Life Is Strange - So far it seems to be the best implementation of meaningful choice and consequence in a game to date.

Jedi Knight: Outcast - Really surprised it didn't make the list, I thought it was generally considered one of the best Star Wars games (alongside KotoR)

Age of Empires 2 - Again, a surprising omission given that it's one of the most popular and definitive RTS games ever

I've played 3 of their top 10:

#10: Fallout: New Vegas

#08: Deusix

#05: Skyrim

I was surprised to see City: Skylines at #40. Have they fixed a lot of bugs, like the terrible traffic jams that keep ambulances, police, and fire trucks away from where they need to go?

Overall, it is a list of popular games. Some classics. Some new. Never really thought much about my own "Top 100" :D

In no universe is Bioshock better than Morrowind. Surprising to see New Vegas so high though.

Can't say I agree with their Top 100 list.

Their list is cool, mine is cool too. The fun part about these clickbait lists is to read the comments below them. A lot of internet warriors trying to put each other down for preferences. Like these two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgQnNvOYbR0

I know it's just a bit of fun and everyone will have their own opinion's but Sensible Soccer was an Amiga game for me and i wouldn't have any Mass Effect game in the top 10 personally, but no Unreal 1, Total Annihilation or Championship/Football Manager doesn't seem right,

Also i know the COD games is mostly seen as a console series now but Call Of Duty 1 was a big PC hit as was Medal of Honor Allied Assault and where is one of the Jedi Knight games!, there's loads missing! :D

Laughable list...Sensible Soccer? I've never even heard of that before now and imo Tecmo Bowl is one of the best classic sports games.

edit- forgot that this was PC games but still Tecmo rules. :P

Quake 3 is #55. Anachronix is considered a JRPG.

Not exactly big on simulators are they? No Silent Hunter, no Il2, no X3, no Rise of Flight...

No mention of The Secret World either, the MMO that spoiled all other MMOs for me with its brilliant quests and dark Lovecraftian fantasy world.

Well... Honestly, Skyrim is kinda the best TES game or very close to it. Depends on how you look at the series though. It's either Skyrim or Morrowind.

I actually did the video on it myself, though looking at a specific angle. I did say at the ending though that one's personal favorite/best TES depends on how they may look at it though.

I am against the very concept of top lists in the media when it comes to entertainment products to be honest

Entertainment quality is completely subjective, as a game/book/movies quality entirely depends on the interests and likes/dislikes of the person going through it..

there are many games out there that I think were great, but you probably think were sub-par.. likewise there are probably many titles out there you thought were great, but I personally thought were poor titles..

top to me are no different than "Im gonna go on facebook and go to a random persons page to see what stuff they've liked"..

thats my Opinion anyways..

as to the list the OP linked, yeah some of the titles on it were games i always thought were great titles.. at the same time, there are titles on there i thought were pretty bad personally...
