Naming a White GSD

Post » Mon Sep 07, 2015 7:01 pm

So I made one of these threads a while back about getting a German Shepherd Dog but that fell through as the mother carrying miscaried the litter after an accident. The owners have since retired her and are planning to breed one of their white GSD with another white GSD meaning it should be a full white litter. The pups should be born and ready to go to families by December. So now I have to come up with with name candidates for him/her.

I'm wanting to do something that goes with the color but also with the personality, so I'm coming up with names for different types of dogs. So far I have:

Ghost - From Game of Thrones but I feel this will be too common

Geist - The german word for Ghost

Phantom - Also meaning Ghost but also the French word for it

Yeti - For if we get a goofball

Moro - For a calm dutiful dog, also it's the name of the Mother Wolf from Princess Mononoke

Frost

Blizzard

Geralt - Name of the Witcher AKA The White Wolf

Siegfried

Ciri

Cloud

Any other ideas?

I kinda feel obliged to say "Dave". :hehe: Now that's out the way, is Geralt too nerdy?

I tend to let pets earn a name, but the first name that came to mind was 'Boo'. Sort of fits with the whole ghost theme. :)

Absolutely NOT! I really like that one though my wife was like "Who the hell is Geralt?". Really like that one and it's fitting since he is the "White Wolf". Obviously if it's a boy we get though.

Good names but they dont work for me.

It might not be a bad idea to wait until you see the dog before trying to come up with names for it. I had a cat once that couldn't figure out what to name it until I saw him. First time I saw the cat I looked at him and said to him, "You look like you belong in a Norman Rockwell painting." It was upon speaking that sentence I knew what my cat's name would be (Norman). Maybe something similar will work for you.

That's a good point, but most white GSD look pretty similar. Like a bunch of domesticated white wolves <3 .

I like Geist and its unusual, probably too many Ghosts and Geralts around

Also could go for the original white wolf Elric or White Fang from the Jack London novel

I think that requirement would disqualify more than half of the planet. Haha. But regarding names. Geralt would be pretty cool, or Ciri. Other names that come to mind are White Lighting, and I forgot. I had a few more but I'm just drawing a blank.

Lol, well my understanding is that intelligence is circumstantial. Hopefully the circumstances will be in my favor.

lol, it was intended as a joke (more or less).

Just keep in mind:

  • The German Shepherd is highly intelligent and will not be content to live life as a couch potato. lol
  • He is a dog of "action", and he needs to live with an active person who will give him a "job" worth of his talents.
  • German Shepherds love children and make great family dogs when they are given early socialization and training.
  • Also, a German Shepherd should never be shy, nervous or aggressive.

Take good care of him...
