A Question For The Modders

Post » Thu Sep 10, 2015 3:12 am

So. I have a question for modders out there, or anyone whom have done this really...

Have you ever done minor edits for only yourself and what are they? Are they original mods or edits to other mods?

I've edited a few mods myself actually:

Spoiler

I changed the skin for http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/559814205050030095/B6E59D01B1563B728BD6A9DF1BFB0F7D9495C549/ to make it look more like http://static-1.nexusmods.com/15/images/110/983976-1326217536.jpg

Edited the Dremoras and their magic from the "Coldharbour Daedra Mod" for balancing.

I also made "fire arrows" easier to get and edited Derkeethus quite a bit (since he is my favorite follower).

And so on...

If I could figure out how to edit textures, I would.

I kinda want to change Khajiit fur so I can do solid colors on the tail at least. That twist while sneakig bug is driving me nuts and since I can't find a fix for that, I thought maybe making the tail a solid color to get rid of the white underneath might help.

Well,

  • I made Blades Armor to be craftable, once the player has located Sky Haven Temple & Alduin's Wall.
  • I changed the way alchemy works, by making the potion's duration dependent on the player's skill & perks. This ofcourse, required editing the stock potions too.
  • I made Shalidor's scrolls last for an ingame week -makes more sense in my opinion.

At some point, I added a mountain pass to Skuldafn, enabled only after the end of the main quest. But I wanted to associate it with a quest, which proved to be easier said than done -due to my next to nonexistent scripting knowledge.

That's pretty much it.

I think there's already a mod for that... If not, I could provide some help with you. I have a good bit of scripting knowledge myself and am a quick learner anyways... (Never done a quest though).

Thanks for the offer, although I abandoned the "project" later. Didn't even bother to keep the plugin. I had looked for something like that and found only mods that added travel markers.

Oh: I also added more enchanting slots to fortify unarmed and tweaked the base damage a bit -don't think of anything gamebreaking. At some point, I had replaced smithing in the alchemy table with fortify unarmed -but I was too spoiled already :P

I've done that quite a bit, especially for armor mods where the armor is only available via console commands. I'll make them craftable or stick them in the world somewhere for me to get.

I downloaded this: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10771/then stripped out everything that wasn't related to the perk tree itself.

I've added crafting stations, food recipes and combined various weapon and armor mods into one esp.

Making little mods for myself is probably mostly what I do these days, as far as modding goes.

I make a lot of little mods to help roleplay a particular character. These mods are only used for one game and one character. Most of them are deleted after the game is over.

I couldn't even begin to list all the different kinds of mods I've made for myself. There's too many to list. After 13 years I'm sure I must have made hundreds of them.

For my last character I made custom armor and a custom sword. She'd already been a mercenary for a few years at the start of the game so it made sense for her to have her own gear. I also made a house for her to live in.

In addition to that, I'm also an inveterate tweaker of other people's mods. I can't seem to leave a mod alone after I download it. I feel compelled to make some little adjustment. I feel like a mod is mine only after I have put my stamp on it. Bizarre, I know.

Yup, I either remove dialog, NPCs, certain other stuff to make the mod fit my needs/taste. :)
