And I've been doing this every weekend! :o Although on slightly lower temperatures.

They should just Rochambeau each other next time. It's painful, just as stupid as a "sauna contest", and yet nobody will die.

Ha a few people were talking about that a few years ago, they concluded the trophy would be an ice pack. I still dont like the mental image from that game. :nope:
Now I cant get that out of my head, I repressed that stuff.

I don't get where all the fuss is coming from. Accidents happen. That's life. Not too long ago a someone dropped a kilometer from K2 and died, but I don't see any fuss about "stupidity of mountain climbing" emerging.

It is true that competitions like this are not too wise and it is a tragedy, what happened to the russian guy. The purpose of sauna is to feel good and refreshed, not to burn oneself over an arbitrary title. But to raise this as worldwide news so people can start pointing their fingers.... I guess being one of a kind happening has that effect.

Exactly. Which is why the story is so... weird.

Apparently it was foolish of me to assume everyone knew of the Scandinavian Sauna Championships.

What is the purpose of any competiton, when it comes down to it? This is no stranger than when a boxer is killed in the ring, or a ski jumper lands badly, or a downhill slalom goes horribly wrong, or a marathon runner collapses from exhaustion. People are always pushing the limits, and 110-degrees Celsius isn't actually that bad (depending on the sauna and humidity.) It certainly won't "burn the skin off your body" - after all, the reigning champ won six years running. This sauna competition has been going on for years without serious incident, and I find it amusing that people who've never heard of it before are suddenly up in arms about "how people could be so dumb" when there are equally "pointless" competitions within their own limited cultural awareness that would also qualify for such ridiculous criticism.

You really can't see the difference between sitting in a room that has the temperature raised to dangerous levels and a physical fight that you train your entire life for, denoting physical prowess and fame? You really think people care about a Sauna Championship more than a UFC championship? Because that's a laughable notion.

Ugh. I fail to find words for what I feel. I can't find a word synonymous with the amount of stupidity I wish to express to be abundant in the subject of my derisive scoff.

Still, generally don't like saunas, and I'm from the land of saunas (and nobody better tell me otherwise! *Shakes fist*)...I don't do well in extreme temperatures, be they cold or warmth. Prolly a blood-pressure thing.

Well yeah, in Finland, they do.

You assume no ones thinks any other sports/competitions are dumb as well.

The only laughable notion is how little you have experienced of this world, and how much of an "expert" you seem to think you are.

You like throwing out personal quarrels in threads bro? Cause you're pretty good at it. If you have something to say, or for some reason you feel the need to flex your peen, then by all means send me a message and teach me of the world bro. (not like I haven't been to 4 different countries or anything)
Otherwise, get the hell out of the thread with it.

Not worth my time, tbh. I can recognise a hopeless cause when I see one.

You really think I care about your personal opinions towards me?
No really, I want an honest answer. :goodjob:

Which means soccer ain't that popular here. Somewhat, but not the way like in middle europe. It's all about ice hockey around here, and boy have our teams svcked in lately in the world championship games

I've always seen these sauna championships more as a novelty than anything serious, i just go to sauna to relax, and get clened. My favorite part of the week actually, especially in winter

Posts deleted, trolling and flaming will get a warning.

The topic is not based in a sauna, so let's not get hot and sweaty. OK?

The thing is, the organizers had a new stove, or should I say oven, made for the event two years ago. The idea was that it would producer a harder, not specifically hotter sauna, so that the contestants would leave the sauna earlier. At least they wouldn't have a chance to suffer from dehydration. The contestants used to last up to 15 minutes in 110C, this year they only lasted 5 minutes. However, these two didn't leave the sauna in time and they were starting to pull those guys out at 6 minutes. The Russian died after fighting the organizers (didn't want to leave), the Finn is kept asleep in a ventilator in one of the major hospital in the capital city. It's possible they had both taken pain killers, and the Russian was warned before the final about applying grease on his skin, which is strictly forbidden. Just rumours though, nothing official yet. They are still pondering the cause of death.. gee, does being cooked alive count as an official reason?

Yes, they did have a live webcast, and I watched it.. now I'm slightly traumatized and mad at whoever was involved with this crazy event. I didn't know they had ordered a more powerful heater until after the event.. madness. :(

I know a few animals who are smarter than to sit in a room where temperatures raise to levels so high they boil your skin off..
Actually, I don't know any animal that would do that. That's sad.

I've been in 110 degrees few minutes, and my skin looks just fine.
Is there something what I'm missing here?

As stated on the articles, World Sauna Championships have been going on over ten years now, and this is first time I ever hear someone
dying.

BTW, I where in sauna about 10 minutes ago :)

Having read the opening post, I am removing the link and closing the thread as it is not appropriate for these forums.

Showing pictures of a person in a critical state is just not acceptable. If anyone has thoughts about posting any similar topics in the future they would do best to check with a moderator first.
