Anyone Ever Listen to Vault 101's Radio?

Post » Sat May 22, 2010 4:01 am

In my first run, which was a while back, I hadn't paid much attention to it-the player is in the vault for a pretty short amount of gameplay time, and I hadn't been aware of the fact in the first run. So I didn't bother listening to it much, and when I was "listening" to it, I wasn't paying much attention.

Just found it an interesting little aspect to the Vault. Especially since, if I recall correctly, the other vaults don't have the special radio. With an obviously robotic voice making the occasional statement, and otherwise playing a lot of instrumental(and swing, from what I've listened to so far) music.
Spoiler
And, also, I have no idea if it's around later, on the quest Trouble on the Homefront.

The main point of the thread was to discuss the radio, but also any other little details you might have missed in Vault 101-or even the game in general. I, for one, missed a lot of them in my aforementioned first game. Where I'd maybe even remember little facts from dialog, but not really pay attention to the facts-to say the least, I was being rather unobservant.

I like the music on the Vault 101 radio. It's kind of relaxing and peaceful, and it's a shame you can't listen to it anymore after exiting the vault.

Yeah, it isn't bad. I'm just surprised that it's in there at all, in a way, considering how short of a timespan it typically lasts in a player's game.

Indeed. I stumbled on it, on the wiki, a little after making this thread actually. The http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_101_PA_System for Vault 101. I don't know if any of the others have/had it, though.

I guess because of how short of a visit the player gets, typically, in Vault 101, it's really easy to miss some of this stuff. There's apparently also a reference to Fallout 1 in Vault 101's cafeteria, via poster.

Yeah, I like it. Nice music, and gives the vault a little more life.

I recall the robot 'DJ' saying something along the lines of: "radiation detectors show that life outside of the vault will not be possible for another 200 years." Heh heh, guess it's all part of the experiment.

I vaguely remember something like that. But yeah, when I was in the vault I wasn't thinking hmmm... I wonder what's on the radio. To include it for only that short amount of time, you'd think they'd at least had your dad mention it to you to introduce you to the radio or something along those lines. Maybe they had intended for you to do more in the vault early on and decided to make a radio to pass the time but scrapped the idea but the radio stuck with....

I did not realize i had a radio until I stumbled upon it in the Wasteland after I had exited Vault 101. I guess it is something I will do for a 2nd playthrough. Will have to listen to it from the point of getting it to see if there is anything good.
