As a lover of films from all eras, with a special fascination for silent cinema, I have for some years periodically checked https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surviving_silent_film_actors. That list is nowadays quite minuscule. For the last several years it held fairly steady at 13. When I checked it two Sundays ago it had dropped to 12. My check this past Sunday found 11. I knew immediately who this week's loss was. A a little research unearthed the other. They are:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Darling, who left us 4 September at age 93.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dikeie_Moore_%28actor%29, who passed away 7 September several days shy of his 90th birthday.
Both might be remembered by even today's younger audiences as alumni of the Our Gang comedies (later dubbed Little Rascals). Both had relatively long careers that extended into the sound era.
As to the remaining few survivors, none is old enough to have have been an advlt actor during the silent era, the oldest having barely entered their teens as it ended. The last living advlt age star-caliber actor of the era is generally acknowledged to have been Anita Page, who departed in 2008. It saddens me that direct representation from this important part of our cultural past is so near its end. On a positive note, these survivors led long and hopefully happy (or at least content) lives.
