DiD Competition Discussion, Trash Talk, and Nonsense

Post » Mon Sep 14, 2015 12:20 pm

What about filling a soul gem with an soul trap enchanted weapon that is found or bought? If we are allowing recharging and use of enchanted weapons, that that should be okay, no? It does not really matter to me that much one way or another as long as we are all clear on the rules.

Edit: Yes, I am fine with two week competitions, but then we will have to work in the vargyr (sp?) competition in as a regular competition, since we wont have that week of down time, but since you are running the competitions now, that should work out well.

looks good........well done Sir Neil

only three suggestion...#1...........Gold Found x 0.2...........if you look up this ones points from round 5..........this one had a total of 200.000points just from this alone, that was a third of this ones total score coming from just one task (gold found) should be divided by NOT x times by......../ 0.2 ?..........you might need to play around with some maths on paper to find the right modifier

#2...........a silly request............Sir Neil can you pleas include the original DiD rules in your text above...........yes we all know we cant fast travel ext...........but some one new might think these things are allowed because the are not mentioned above, make a FULL VERSION & OFFICIAL one.

#3...........Training sessions.........if this is about skill of the thief, this should be allowed only on the thief skills..........no one will be able to pay anyways money will be very rare in this round, you have to buy every thing.....and have money left over for training, this would force the issue of thieving for money....besides the cost a skill over 50 costs a fortune............when you buy skills after you hit the +50 on trainer level

Eh, 1000 / 0.2 = 50,000 while 1000 x 0.2 = 200 So, you must have found 1,000,000 gold, right? I'm not certain that needs changing, because of course the pursuit of gold is integral to the thief character. Does anyone know if total value of found special/enchanted weapons is figured as found gold, or is it only the value received when they are eventually sold?

I had intended to put the rules in their entirety on the initial post in the competition thread, so everybody can see the official rules all at once. At the moment, some rules may still be subject to change (though I doubt changes will still happen aside from a ruling on recharging weapons and soul trapping with found or purchased weapons), so I'm reluctant to list them as official just yet

Neil I just tested it selling the Axe of Whiterun to Adrianne.

It was the SELLING value that added to 'Gold Found'.

From sah's scoresheet in the last competition:

So, yeah, Sah had over a million gold found. I've never collected more than maybe 50,000 to 100,000 gold myself on any character, even ones that made it to level 49 (the highest level any of my characters have ever been).

Personally, I think multiplying gold by .2 is fine for a thief competition. Maybe lower it to .1 in future warrior competitions, but since stealing should be the focus of thieves, I'd keep it at .2 for this one.

Just curious.....TG Side Quests (500). Are those the little jobs you do for Delvin and Vex ?

Thanks for checking that out for me!

As to your question about side quests, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Side_Quests is the comprehensive list of side quests. Some of them are quite extensive, and many I would consider death traps for thieves, so I don't feel the 500 credit is out of line. The radiant quests for the thieves guild doing the jobs for Vex and Delvin I believe are counted as TG quests.

The 1000 points for those quests I think is realistic because of the extensive travel involved. Can anybody ell me if there was ever a ruling on allowing or disallowing fast travel by carriage for this round??

I think multiplying the gold by 0.2 is fine, since we’re all using the same multiplier. The raw score favors the folks who have more time to play, but it should even out once we divide the final scores by hours played.

neil, I don’t recall a ruling on carriage travel. I don’t particularly care either way.

I think it is a good idea to give the players who still have living characters at the two week mark the option to quit or continue. Let's wait and let them decide.

Woo! It's almost time...

The rule for Carriage based Fast Travel..........is whatever you say it is.......feel the power!

Imo......personal view.......harder is better.....sorts the field out, if you get my drift. I'd say NO to any form of FT......if it was me!

Wait, was dividing the final score even discussed? I must have done a dimout, because I don't remember that... Can anybody help?

Regarding letting the players decide at the end of two weeks, I don't think that's a good idea for a couple of reasons. First, a finite amount of time gives a player a framework in which to decide his pace and where to concentrate his efforts. Secondly, it creates a possibility for a scenario where a player has a substantial lead as the end of the two week period approaches but dies hurrying toward the finish line, and then a second player who was far behind can take advantage of adding another week of play to pass the overall score. While that would be a technically legal move, I can see it creating hard feelings here and there, and I'd just as soon avoid that.

So, I'm thinking a finite two or three week time limit would be best.

It’s been mentioned, but don’t worry, I was just stirring the pot a little. :D

Good point about setting a firm ending date at the beginning. Last time I didn’t get home until after the game had started so I enjoyed playing until the end, but after another week I was bored. Two weeks is fine with me, or whatever you decide.

It's late here, good night! :)

Only a couple of areas left... The MQ, allowed or not, shouts allowed or not, and carriage fast travel allowed or not. I have a hard time seeing the Master Thief running around shouting all over the place, or wearing the title of dragonborne (which seems primarily to be a warrior sort of thing). I'm going to say no carriage fast travel either. The reason for that is simply to make everybody think before they set out to do a TG radiant quest.

Because the Golden Claw is not actually part of the MQ, it is allowed. Whether you turn back after acquiring it or continue through the barrow is up to you.

If you don't find that or any part of that acceptable, you still have a few hours to voice your opinion and who knows, you just might change my mind. :D

Neil I think you should allow shouts like for the other NNC game......meaning MQ no further than let say telling Balgruuf' that Mimulnir is dead. That means no greybeards so you don't get the full and OP FusRoDah ( Fus is good enough to stagger foes), but you can get all the other shouts if you can kill dragons for their souls.....plus you get Lyds to look after Lakeview :). Just my .02

Make sure your "no carriage based FT" is clear in the rules cos it's a (welcome) departure from the previous normal.

To be honest, I've been dithering about all night with the notion of shouts or no shouts, and if no shouts where does the main quest end. I'mreally glad of any input now, as time is running out. I don't want to make spurious decisions without due consideration of the everybody's wants, but I know there is no way to please everybody.

I'm just going to go with your suggestion Rick, and let the chips fall where they may. I personally feel that clear rules (right or wrong) without a lot of ambiguity will really be better in the long run.

Good choice, guys. There are some nice Shouts available for thieves, but no one is forced to go get them. :tops:
