As the title says, if a character dies during competition, should the player be allowed to create an entirely new character and start from scratch having lost all points accumulated by the deceased character??

It doesn't seem to me that there's any loss to other competitors if one restarts this way, with a completely different character. I voted #3.

I have a further possible suggestion/notion. If one restarts this way, one should be required to use the stats for only the most recent character. So one wouldn't be allowed to play three successive characters, and then choose the best score from among them.

Kaemrig suggested that in the other thread. I would tend to agree with that, but I don't think it really matters that much.

Yeah, I read this thread before I read the other one. And you're right; it really doesn't make much difference.

I don't mind losing ALL the dead chars score if it means I can still enjoy the competition.

Fighting to outdo your own best score after a restart is a further bit of self competition fun, even if you get no chance to catch the leader ( whoever she may be ).

Neil......if you ARE considering such a generous allowance during THIS round.....I would suggest a firm GO signal for us dearly departed ones 3pm ( Portugal UTC) SATURDAY which is precisely one week since initial kick off
