As the title says, if a character dies during competition, should the player be allowed to create an entirely new character and start from scratch having lost all points accumulated by the deceased character??

It doesn't seem to me that there's any loss to other competitors if one restarts this way, with a completely different character. I voted #3.
I have a further possible suggestion/notion. If one restarts this way, one should be required to use the stats for only the most recent character. So one wouldn't be allowed to play three successive characters, and then choose the best score from among them.
Yeah, I read this thread before I read the other one. And you're right; it really doesn't make much difference.
Eight people have voted, and that's about as many as we usually have playing, so I'm going to say that it's likely the majority has spoken.
Option 3 has won by a margin of over 2 to 1 so that's what it is, and so it shall be. Go for it folks! Let's wait two hours so people can see the rule change, so you may begin at 12:30 Pacific time.
Me, I gotta get some sleep first...
