General Annoyinghated things in Skyrim.

ok, just what are some things that annoy you in Skyrim. Can be something simple like a minor glitch, or a big time hatred in the game.

I have only one rule: DO NOT BLAME THE DEVELOPERS OR ANYONE TIED TO BETHESDA OR HAD A HAND IN THE CREATION OF ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM.

I would have to say my annoyance in Skyrim is all the mean characters. I mean those who don't even know you and they hate you. I know it's the Nords' Land (which can actually be argued that it really isn't) but that doesn't mean you should treat everyone with hatred. For all you know, they could be Half Nord.

The civil war and the main quest. My biggest gripe with Skyrim is tying the civil war (and the Dragonborn expansion) to the main quest. This was an atrociously hideous idea and I hope they never do it again, ever. Not ever. Never again.

Removing underwater combat while retaining hostile underwater enemies. This mystifies me to this day. To me this is like removing our ability to defend ourselves in a dungeon.

Weapons that did not display on the character. between the lack of underwater combat and weapons that don't show up, I almost feel like Bethesda went backwards, technologically.

Forced kill-cams. I don't dislike kill-cams themselves, but they should have been toggle-able. They're not appropriate for every character.

Placing Word Walls in locations that require our characters to join guilds. This strikes me as one more example of Bethesda encouraging us to do everything with one character.

Scripted NPC interactions. I thought this was a great idea in theory, but in practice hearing the same conversations again and again was actually worse than Oblivion's random conversations.

The interface. I'm not one who hates everything about the UI like some people (I actually prefer it to Oblivion's UI) but I seriously dislike the "constellation" perk page design and the 3D map. I have sworn out loud more than once, trying to swing the right perk tree into view and then to click on the right perk. The word "awkward" doesn't even begin to describe the perk page. And the 3D map is so lacking in detail and so often obscured by clouds on top of that, that it is nearly useless, as far as I'm concerned.

The removal of item degradation and spellmaking. Degradation was a small thing, but I thought it added a bit of interesting strategy to the game. Do I need to buy some repair hammers before I head out for my next adventure? Can I get through this dungeon before I run out of hammers? Any game feature that makes me think is good, in my book. And I shouldn't have to defend spellmaking. Hopefully, that will come back in TES VI.

Regenerating health. This is a minor annoyance. It's never had much of an impact on any combat my characters have been in, but it doesn't matter. The very fact that it regenerates at all gets on my nerves. I can live with regeneration, but I wish it didn't. As a matter of fact, I would go back to Morrowind's non-regenerating Magicka as well.

It's probably a good thing I'm not in charge of these games. Bethesda would quickly go out of business.

These things I can agree upon, except for the perk tree. I didn't mind it. I actually felt it was quite nice to have it like that since many games just cramp everything into one "page" and then it's that.

The map on the other hand was horrible.

I know many people liked the enchanting system, I didn't. Upgrading equipment through blacksmiting was okay but enchanting just made you too powerfull.

Minor glitches I didn't like was that certain important quest NPC's would refuse to talk to you or simply disappear.

I have to agree with the map idea, but I found out what the clouds do, THE MAP IS IN REAL TIME. How do I find out? I killed a Dragon, ran away, looked at the map and say it burning. Kinda cool, but it was just not needed. I preferred no clouds and actually show roads, so I don't have to Billy Goat a mountain.

These two things are my biggest gripes, followed closely by not being able to use a power like nighteye or a staff while on horseback. I can use a dagger, sword, axe, mace, hammer or bow while mounted, but for some reason once I'm on a horse my Khajiit eyes stop functioning normally... and with all those weapons, I can't use a simple staff of flames? I can't shout? Are you KIDDING me? I've done world-class shouting in RL at some jughead nag that was intent on scraping me off his back with a tree branch...

Then, adding insult to injury, if the horse is swimming, I can't use my bow? Say WHAT? YEAH, THE HORSE IS IN WATER, SO MY ARMS STOP FUNCTIONING... Thus joining my eyes and my voice on an imagined picket line, striking for what... Dryer working conditions and travel pay? Yeesh!

The underwater combat, or lack thereof, gets even more unusual when playing an Argonian. Who would probably be more at home underwater to some extent, but nope, still cannot fight. Would have been an interesting combat bonus though, similar to the Khajiit's unarmed damage bonus, i.e the Argonians getting a bonus to the same while underwater. Might not be to practical if all you have to fight is slaughterfish, but...it would help. In fact, it almost seems like the same problem that Assassin's Creed had, but it doesn't kill you, just make you unable to fight.

The lack of the left-hand sword and the staff is...odd. Especially how the left hand sword just disappears, and for the staff, well, I have the guess that the game treats it like you are just holding a spell, with a different casting animation.

Especially for a few of the shouts which upon finding the first word, you love what it does, and want to find more words for the enhanced effects. But after quite a few dungeons you haven't found it, and resort to looking it up - and the last word is in a location that relates to a questline you simply do not want to do. Especially bad for the Fire Breath Shout, since while you can access the dungeon one of the words it is in, without being on the related quest, it's only one room and a few enemies, and that is as far as you can get. Others can be just as bad, only they don't tease you at all.

The only reason I can think of for removing item degradation is due to the fact that you can improve weapons and armor. Sure, it could just degrade back to it's normal state(and perhaps have a additional "broken" state), but that just means having to either keep the hammers, or require the player to return to a forge to fix the item(s). This would be a perhaps more interesting method to raise Smithing, but annoying if you also need to use more and more materials to repair it back to Legendary. As for spell making, I'm not sure. But then again I didn't use it too much in Oblivion.

As for mine...

Lack Of Recognition - Not in every case, as it does happen. But more so in the few quest which perhaps your race should be mentioned in some way, it isn't. Not always in a derogatory way, obviously, but some kind of mention. Like surely some Nords would at least voice a slight..."Huh?" at the mention of a Khajiit or Argonian Dragonborn? Or one of an Elven race? Again, not always in the sense that they are against the idea or don't believe you, but something.

NPC Recognition Of Quests - Something similar, but while I don't find this too annoying, I find it odd. What I mean though, is having certain NPCs say only one line, which might work if you haven't done too much in the game. But if you have, say you've become Thane, suddenly some of their comments don't make any sense. Like them having no idea who you are, or thinking you've just arrived in the city/hold. In some cases, an NPC might have no idea who you are, or care. But in others, they should to some extent.

Static Magic Effects - Not for weapons, but the spells themselves. Like the Fury spell. How long before that is useless? Yeah, you can find a better version that will work, but soon enough that one doesn't effect NPCs either. I'm not saying that spells like those should be gained once and upgrade as you level the related skill, but more so that while the spell could have a max level it is absolutely going to work on, perhaps higher levels would at least have a chance for it to work, even if the time might be cut in half.

You Are Carrying To Much To Be Able to Run - The weight limit or items having weight I have no problem with. What I do have a problem with, is when this bloody message appears, and it will constantly be spammed until you deal with the issue, and even more so as you do whatever to go under the limit.
