Morrowind not working on Windows 10

Post » Sat Sep 19, 2015 12:14 am

All,

I have upgraded to Windows 10 and Morrowind no longer works. What happens is the main screen will pop up, I click "Play" and the program just dies. No errors, no messages... just nothing.

Here is what I have tried so far:

  1. Uninstalling and reinstalling Morrowind
  2. Running desktop icon in Windows XP service pack 2 compatibility mode
  3. Running as admin
  4. Running in Win 7 compatibility mode.
  5. Running lower color resolutions
  6. Running windowed/non-windowed mode.

Any help would be appreciated. Even though I am addicted to ESO at the moment, I still like to fire Morrowind up every now and again.

FYI, this install is from the original 14 year old disc. I did not download it recently from steam.

I haven't tried this with my Morrowind disc, so I don't know if the case, but a lot of disc based PC games doesn't work in Windows 10.

I do know that the GOG version of Morrowind works fine in Windows 10 though.

Works fine for me, both the disk version and the steam version. You might want to check if your CD is damaged and your installation is broken. Also make sure you don't have two seperate installations as that completely messed up the game for me.

Thanks for the replies. I think the Disc is fine. It worked fine in Windows 7 before the upgrade. Software will install without issue from the disk, and the main menu will launch. However when "play" is clicked, absolutely nothing happens. No errors... nothing in the event logs.. nothing just *poof* goes away.

I just checked the disk version. What worked for me was checking "Run as administrator" for both the Morrowind.exe and the Morrowind Launcher.exe and running them in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Then change the resolution in the launcher again.

Tried copying install files to my hard drive and running setup.exe as both admin and windows xp compatibility mode. Same thing. Launch game, click play, toilet bowl swirl icon for about 1 second, then... nothing.
