Inquiries into the existence of a few mods.

Post » Tue Sep 22, 2015 7:58 am

So over the the course of the last few days, I've been thinking about a few simple mods I would like to make for myself (with the possibility of public release) to remedy a couple of in-game annoyances I've found. Before I start modding it up though, I was curious to know if any of my ideas already exist as mods out there. If so, they are likely better executed than a mod of my creation would be. Anyways, here are the ideas:

- Revamped racial abilities, including things like permanent water-breathing and swift swim for Argonians, toggle Night-eye for Khajiits, more powerful Beast Tongue for Bosmer, possibly allowing for "semi-permanent" animal companions (by which I mean until said animal dies), etc etc. The ultimate goal for this would be to create more of a racial diversity, and to make each race more useful throughout the game.

- Revamped birthsigns. Because I mean, come on. There are a few birthsigns that will ALWAYS be clear choices (in my opinion). I want to re-balance them so that they are all useful, with no clear winner, and so they can remain useful in the endgame.

- Lore-friendly artifacts. A lot of the in-game descriptions of artifacts simply don't match up with the artifacts themselves. Take Volendrung as an example. Yagrum Bagarn tells us that it paralyzes and leeches strength from targets, but the actual weapon is just a modest, unenchanted piece of crap! And what's up with that awesome axe http://images.uesp.net/f/f4/MW-item-Wings_of_the_Queen_of_Bats.jpg that shows up in the CS, but never in game? Basically, the goal of this would be to revamp the artifacts so they actually match their own lore (which should have been done in the first place by Bethesda).

- Lore friendly Molag Grunda. Yeah, that's right. I said it. It sounds ridiculous, but this one really bugs me. Molag Grunda is supposed to be the daughter of Molag Bal. Why the hell is she a Winged Twilight?! That's Azua's daedra! Basically my plan for Molag Grunda is to make her a vampire, maybe Quarra, and give her Wings of the Queen of bats (that awesome axe I mentioned earlier). Also I might get rid of her ridiculous Frost Atronach lover in lieu of something that makes more sense lorewise. As weird as it sounds, a Hunger might fit in here, as they are Boethiah's beasties, and Molag Bal is a known enemy of Boethiah (which adds to why Molag Grunda must perish). If anyone has a LESS ridiculous idea, please let me know, because the Hunger is almost as bad as that derpy Frost Atronach.

- I had a couple of other ideas, but they escape me. I'll add them if I can remember.

Anyways, I'd like to know if mods like these already exist, and if not, if anyone would actually be interested in mods like these.

Thanks! :D

There are many mods for Birthsigns and Racial powers.
http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/17888/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/21875/? are pretty popular.

A lot of people have done all sorts of things to the artifacts, but I recall someone (Midgetalien maybe?) had some "lore correct" mods for some of the artifact enchantments. As well as adding in the three or four unused weapons.

Rather off-topic but I like your avatar. I was a big fan of Space Ghost when I was a kid. :tops:

Oh that's right, I had totally forgotten about BAMF and RAMF. They are adequate if I feel like being lazy, but I feel like they only get close to balancing races and birthsigns. Plus the fact that it uses Shadowkey as an inspiration for some of the abilities/spells etc kind of rubs me the wrong way. Still, thank you for reminding me. I will consider using these.

And I will look into Midgetalien's mods and see if I can't find something that relates to what I'm talking about. If I find it, I'll post a link here. :)

Yeah, Space Ghost is just awkwardly intelligent enough for my tastes. Its an off-beat classic to be sure. Also, if you look at my avatar for long enough, Space Ghost blinks.

Wakims game improvements revamps races and birthsigns somewhat, giving Khajiit permanent night eye and Argonian permanent water breathing among other things. Wakims makes some changes to birthsigns as well, making some of the "useless" ones a bit more useful. Wakims is modular, so you could use the race and birthsigns modules without the rest of his improvements.

BTB based his mods off Wakims, so his mods make many of the same changes to race and birthsigns, but I personally don't like some of the other changes BTB makes. Wakims focus is on rebalancing. BTB focuses on making the game harder and closing loopholes at the expense of reducing many roleplay options for alchemy, enchanting and spellmaking. But many people love BTBs mod because it makes the game challenging, even at high levels.

Anyway, both Wakims and BTB revamp both races and birthsigns but in a more subtle way with fewer changes than mods that are specifically focused on changing race and birthsigns.

Galsian's Character Development GCD has a module changing birthsigns. I don't recall if they needed GCD itself.

Thanks guys. I remember looking at BTB, WGI and GCD. Maybe I didn't like what I see, but thank you for reminding me of them. I will revisit them to make sure. As for LAoM, that sounds pretty incredible. Is only the MWSE add-on dependent on MWSE? Also, is this something that will override visual changes made by MGSO?

It doesn't the changes were to balance the bonuses from a few signs to work better with GCD. For example, The Lady gives +15 stat boosts instead of +25.
