-20 to stealth, with no visible cause

I'm playing Skyrim through again, for probably about the tenth time!! This time, though, I've encountered a quirk that I've never seen before, and don't know what is causing it....

I *think* this started when I first entered Solstheim... I went to level up, and on the skills screen, my Stealth skill is showing Red, and at 20 points below the actual value... I looked at my current conditions, and nothing is red there, but just for safety I consumed Cure Poison and Cure Disease potions, with no effect. I'm 100 pounds below my weight limit, but just to be sure, I un-equiped and dropped all armour and weapons, also with no effect.

In case it had something to do with Solstheim, I travelled back to Skyrim, but that made no difference.

Any idea what else could cause this?? I don't see anything wrong, anywhere, but I'm still at -20 Stealth.

do you use any mods that may increase/decrease your stats?Once I tried a quest mod that increased my one handed and decreased heavy armour , but then some glitch happened and all my stats decreased .... Maybe that's your situation too...

That might be... the only mod that I added recently was "Breezehome Fully Upgradable"... I really wanted to expand Breezehome, which is typically the only home I maintain in Skyrim. It didn't specifically say anything about modifying stats, but I experienced two new behaviors in the game; the first was this stat modification that I couldn't explain, and the second was that once I went to Solsteim, I could not travel back to Skyrim at all!! Fast travel, signing up with the boat that brought me, and even "coc whiterun" would just give me an infinite loading screen. So I finally gave up and deleted all my saves from this play-through, and then un-installed this mod; clearly there's a problem between it and something else; I've been replaying for months now, and until I installed that mod, it was the epitome of stability...

So right now it's fine? Maybe you should check a requirements for this breezehome mod and it's comaptibility with your skyrim version and other mods....

I have found this, you may should take a look:

If this bug occurs:

  1. Press the key for the dev console (this is usually a ~ with a ` right below it on the key)

  2. Type exactly as written (in place of x type the bugged skill, and in place of y type the amount of the skill you need to restore to get your original skill level)

    player.modAV x yENTER
  3. Your skill should now be y points ahead of what it was before the bug (it should also be green)

  4. Again, type exactly as written (the - next to the y implies exactly that, type - next to what your y value was)

    player.modAV x -yENTER

Your skill should now be restored to its original value.

**The skill names used in place of x are not necessarily what you see in the skill menu. Check this page for the in game names http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes5Mod:Actor_Value_Indices.

Also if you can't remember what your skill should be at use the console code tgm to turn on god mode and run around using the skill until it levels up.

I use Breezehome Fully Upgradeable as well and am 99% sure it does not affect your stats in any way.
