Avoid the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation web site

If you use 4shared or programs like that you may have to turn your HTTPS Everywhere off for that particular website. Just keep that in mind.

A pain... ya in the short term. In the long term it is called security. You are also going from zero to hero in one day so ya... you some things to learn. The basic recommendations will be good for most people. The rest of my recommendations are really for more advanced users and if you have and old system don't bother with the advanced recommendations as your browser will then take a while to load. You shouldn't have any problem with browser load up time with my basic recommendations.

Ok then here is my last security recommendation. https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=passwords

on that page scroll to the bottom and you will see-> "printable ASCII characters" and a little to your upper right you will see a button that says "new Passwords". Click it and then write down that password. Create 2 or 3 of them and write them down. Choose the one you like best. They look confusing BUT they are designed for the querty keyboard and over time you will see that the characters are near each other and you will be able to enter a very difficult password to crack quickly. You can play with the page and create different passwords but choose one for your Last Pass or other password manager as your PRIMARY password.

Great question and I hope someone can answer that. I have an old iphone for personal and a blackberry for work... I keep all the features turned off on my iphone. I can surf the net but I have turned all the tracking features and location features off except for weather and gas stations XDD. I really choose not to surf the net on my phone unless I am out of town and I am lost or hungry XDD

I had a look at that page and it seemed kind of self defeating to use a web site to create passwords. So after some looking around I came up with this one:

http://pwgen-win.sourceforge.net/

I prefer having a standalone program I can use directly from my system. I've definitely been lax about coming up with unique passwords, I tend to use the same one over an over. With this one I can create a strong password for each site I visit and save it in a text file so I don't forget what it is.

The fact that it was open source sold me. I first tried one from Norton but I needed to set up an account with them in order to use it. This one I don't need to do anything. I'm currently in the process of creating unique passwords for every site that I visit, mainly 12 characters with a random mix of characters and letters. Surprisingly, I've come across one site so far that only allows 8 characters. A little lax on the security IMO, especially considering it's my ISP.

Lucky for me I avoid the CBC. I can't wait for the day that place is scrapped. Waste of a billion plus dollars every year.

I use Keepass. It's both a password manager and it includes a "http://keepass.info/".

Good stuff, but have you looked into Blend In? It helps resist Finger Printing.

I tried that for awhile but I found it a bit too convoluted. I like the fact that all PWGen does is generate a password, which I can save to a text file. KeyPass even required a password just to start the program, which I found was a bit much. And I don't really need a manager, Firefox already does that for me. Saving them to a text file is just an added protection for me. I only need something that can create the actual passwords for me, which PWGen does nicely. I've updated all my sites now, each with a unique and next to impossible to figure out password. Thanks to the Syrian Electronic Army, my internet browsing is now a hell of a lot more secure and private.
