Wilderness in the next TES

I would like to see a less clustered wilderness in the next series. One of the things that annoyed me and actually made me use fast travel was how full the wilderness was with NPCs and creatures. I think more NPCs in towns and villages, and very few spread out in the wilderness would make for a more realistic and pleasant travel experience. Another issue I had was with running into creatures all the time on roads, and even in the bush. It's rare that you run into many creatures when hiking because most things that hear humans coming and aren't starving will avoid them. This is why you're told to be loud as possible when hiking to avoid bears. With a more empty wilderness, except perhaps at night when things become more aggressive and wake up. especially the monsters.

I personally think it'd be more creepy to hear things but never see them, and the realization you're all alone in the middle of nowhere.

I've been thinking about wilderness models... And I'd like to see something probably 2x the size, but with only slightly more things in it... I would also prefer a different compass system (I'm not against Markers, like some people are) which doesn't point out sites quite so far away...

That said, I don't think wildlife density is the problem. The wilderness is full of critters. The problem is that they wait until your on top of thembefore they react, when they should have scattered 100 meters out. The behavior model is what causes the problems there, not the amoint of critters.

I agree that I fast travel mostly to avoid wilderness encounters. If I am heading someplace specific, I want to get there, not spend "days" fighting through all of Skyrim's Fauna. Unfortunately, we seem to be the odd ones :)

I think the roads should be fairly free of "hostile" encounters and going off the beaten path should increase "hostile" encounters. TES is a violent place. I would think that most "normal people" (aka: non-player characters) would stick as close to civilizations as possible. In Skyrim specifically, once Dragons are unleashed, I would think that travel would dwindle to almost non-existence :)

Most of the players that helped Skyrim sell a gajillion copies want to fight! fight! fight! I think Todd Howard even feels that way.
