NCAA Football 2015

Damn, we're four weeks into the season and no one has started a thread yet! Buncha slackers we are ...

I'll kick it off with some SEC stuff, after noting that TCU (#3) barely escaped with a win against Texas Tech (unranked), and that Oregon is getting pasted at home by Utah, 55-13.

The SEC East is looking very, very mediocre again this year, with Georgia being the only team that looks halfway decent. Missouri managed to lose to Kentucky, South Carolina just plain svcks, and Vanderbilt is Vanderbilt. Tennessee vs. Florida turned out to be a very exciting game, with the Gators rallying from trailing 20-7 at halftime to get a 28-27 win. A lot of that was due to Tennessee going ultra-conservative in the second half, and I expect that Butch Jones has got to be feeling some heat by now, especially since this is the Vols' 11th straight loss to the Gators. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Gators sneak into the bottom of the Top 25 this week, what with Missouri and BYU losing, but their stay will be a brief one as they face Ole Miss next week.

Looks like all the action's in the West yet again. Texas A&M needed overtime to beat Arkansas, but they're 4-0. Ole Miss looks like the cream of the West, but you can't rule out Alabama even though they lost to them last week. Auburn and Mississippi State are struggling, Arkansas is still a bottom tier West team thought they're still probably better than half of the East, and LSU so far looks like they might be decent.

Cool! I was going to start a thread, too :)

Utah. They beat my Michigan team, too in week 1! Speaking of Michigan, I am STOKED at what Harbaugh is doing for that program!

Big 10 has the number 1 and 2 (Ohio State and Michigan State) spots this early in the year. Wonder how long that will last :)

Overall, the games I have seen thus far have been good games. Not too many blowouts :)

Looking forward to this season unwrapping week by week!

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Michigan crack the Top 25 this week - it's an amazing turnaround in just a year.

This season looks wide open so far - no one team looks really dominating. It should be a really good year.

The Week 5 polls are out -

AP Top 10

  1. Ohio State 4-0
  2. Michigan State 4-0
  3. Ole Miss 4-0
  4. TCU 4-0
  5. Baylor 3-0
  6. Notre Dame 4-0
  7. UCLA 4-0
  8. Georgia 4-0
  9. LSU 3-0
  10. Utah 4-0

Coaches Poll Top 10

  1. Ohio State 4-0
  2. Michigan State 4-0
  3. TCU 4-0
  4. Baylor 3-0
  5. Ole Miss 4-0
  6. Georgia 4-0
  7. Notre Dame 4-0
  8. LSU 3-0
  9. Florida State 3-0
  10. UCLA 4-0

Oregon fell from #13 all the way out of the AP Top 25. They're just hanging on in the Coaches Poll at #25. Other teams dropping out of the polls are Arizona, Auburn, BYU, Georgia Tech and Missouri. Florida enters the AP at #25 and the Coaches at #23. I'll enjoy seeing us ranked again for the whole week that it will last; Ole Miss pays a visit to Gainesville this Saturday, and the best I can hope for is that we avoid getting blown out at home.

Michigan's back in the AP Top 25, too - at #22. The Coaches Poll didn't include them, though.

First off, the Coaches Poll is a joke. I can't stand when it's ever cited as a legitimate source.

Now, mini rant aside, it does benefit the Gators that Ole Miss is the Clemson of the SEC. Great team, surge up the polls, and then blow it halfway through the year. I'm not saying the Gators have a chance; I'm just saying everyone has a chance.

Georgia should come out of the East considering they have all of their tough games at home. Should be a good matchup this week against Alabama, with a chance for Alabama to redeem themselves and try and stick around til Ole Miss crumbles so they can represent the West.

Buckeyes are 4-0, though admittedly not the start myself or really anyone was looking for. I'm sure we're on atleast some level of cruise control, considering the pageantry, media coverage, and anolysis of our schedule that came after our national championship and before the season. All you have to do is look at player quotes deflecting blame and making excuses like "we weren't very good this time last year" and "we'll be ready when the time comes" to show you that.

Personally, I'm still whole heartedly in JT Barrett's corner when it comes to our quarterback situation, even though most media would have you believe the "controversy" is over following yesterday's game even though I don't think Cardale had a very good game at all. I understand Urban Meyer's unfavorable though, since JT was hurt all the way until fall camp and Cardale won a National Championship last year. In my opinion Cardale inherited a very well oiled machine though, and is still very much a raw (and immature) talent compared to JT. At the moment, however, doesn't look like I'll be getting my wish with Urban's insistence that it's Cardale's job to lose.

Some of the blame has to be placed on the playcalling as well, since it's been baffling at times. Even though we returned almost the entire offense, the hangover from losing Tom Herman seems to be very real. (I'm not afraid to say I wasn't always happy with Herman's playcalling either but this year has been a real step back)

I hope so! Michigan is looking good, thus far :)

I agree that no one is looking dominant, which is a good thing, I think.

For the polls: It's good to see no 1 loss teams still in the top 10 :)

Yea, Ohio State is puzzling me, too. I'm not a big Cardale fan and he seems to be struggling a bit. JT rocked last year until his injury. I have not seen them play, yet, so am no expert :)

WRT the Gators, there's no doubt Jim McElwain has the program going in the right direction, but it's going to take more than one season (and recruiting class) to drag it out of the ditch that Muschamp left it in. I do agree with you about Ole Miss, though, and figure that the West will come down to Alabama again, maybe LSU if Fournette keeps racking up yards like he has been.

Another SEC matchup this week besides Alabama-Georgia that intrigues me is Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State. A&M was really riding the hype train early last year and got exposed as being hugely overrated, while Miss. State came out of nowhere and looked unstoppable for a while before fading down the stretch. A&M is undefeated but hasn't really played anyone besides Arizona State and needed overtime to beat Arkansas at home, and MSU already has a conference loss to LSU. It'll be interesting to see where these two are at this year.
