Final Fantasy VII is finally getting a remake, lots of older franchises have been rebooted. What about Daggerfall?
If there was ever a game ahead of its time, Daggerfall is it. Give it a facelift, update some of the features, and I think it could be a solid hit. No, it won't touch the numbers of FF VII, but unless they royally screw that up (which to be fair, they've shown they are quite capable of doing) that should be one of the top games of the year.
1) Update the graphics and tighten up the geometry. It's an old-school game, so it doesn't have to come up looking like Skyrim, but give it a nice fresh coat of paint and end those trips to the 'void'.
2) Update the automap generator. Give it true 3 axis rotation and the ability to 'hide' as many cells as you want.
3) Keep the world size, town sizes, and dungeons (especially the dungeons). If they want to go crazy, include the procedural engine with the game so you can leave your computer on for a few hours (if that - hell, even if you have to leave it on overnight) and have it auto-generate your own custom world. Otherwise, just fix it so there's more variety in the dungeons. They don't all have to be hand-crafted.
4) Keep the sixy. And for anyone who thinks they can't: Have you played The Witcher 3?
5) Leave the skill system and mechanics alone. For everyone who [censored]es about Oblivion (and Skyrim) being 'dumbed down' from Morrowind - Guess what? Morrowind is a 'dumbed down' game from Daggerfall. Have water walking and water breathing work like the later games, but keep the climbing and all the other good stuff. Maybe require that you 'own' a spell before you can use it in the spell maker.
6) Update the housing with permanent chests and cases. Let the player own more than one house.
7) With all the cool clothing and stuff you could put on your avatar, adding a 3rd person view would be the perfect icing on the cake.
