I'm a bit tired of seeing every denizen of Skyrim eating bread or drinking mead. Is there a way to edit the furniture so that the reading animation is also one of the available idles? There must be a way to do this cleanly at a low level without having to replace furniture instances with specific idle types.

What tells all the regular furniture to use eat and drink sitting idles? Is there a list somewhere? Is there a base AI package? Can't seem to find it.

Can't really help you since I've never explored the creation kit, but I'd recommend looking at the chairs in the Archmage's Quarters. I always found Savos reading in there, so if there's anything different about the chairs, I'd think you should be able to compare and contrast.
