Oblivion Crashes at Launch - Read the FAQ, doesn't apply.

Howdy. I read the FAQ addressing this issue, unfortunately none of the listed unsupported hardware applies to me (I don't think), and nothing else I've found on this forum or elsewhere has solved this issue. Since the hardware list didn't specify that new-ish components would be incompatible with the game, I'm assuming I'm in the clear in that regard.

Here's the skinny: Fresh install of Oblivion, with no mods. I try to launch it, I get a black rectangle the dimensions of my chosen resolution in the top left corner of the monitor, and the game immediately crashes back to desktop. No error message.

System specs: i7 4790 4 GHz / GTX 970
OS: Windows 7 x64.

I have tried the following to get the game working:

- Editing the Oblivion.ini file to turn off sound and music.
- Deleting the \\Users\My Docs\Oblivion directory and relaunching the game
- Innumerable compatibility mode configuration attempts (lets assume all)
- Innumerable display option changes (the whole range)
- Uninstallation and Reinstallation of the game.

I've probably attempted about 40 or 50 loads at this point with different changes and/or combinations of changes. Nothing's worked.

The only thing I've yet to try is uninstalling the CCCP codec pack, as I've heard codecs can futz with the game. Doing that is a bit of a pain at the moment though, so if anyone else has the CCCP installed and has the game running, I'd like to know it.

If anyone has any ideas that might tackle this issue, I'd love to hear them. It seems rather ridiculous that this not-so-old game is having issues running whereas I can push through any number of old games from the 90's through DOSbox and they'll run perfectly.

Thanks!
