So, what REALLY happened to Winterhold?

Post » Sat Oct 10, 2015 11:42 am

Hey guys, I have a crazy theory about the Great Collapse and what happened to Winterhold. I came up with this theory years ago and it gained a bit of traction on Reddit and this website as well. I made a short video about it if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE4bdwI20uk&feature=youtu.be

So, what do you guys think? Am I just insane? Or does this make sense? What do you guys think of the Winterhold questline in general?

Doesn't Savros Aren (Archmage) tell us that the explosion of Red Mountain 200 years earlier caused a great tidal wave that hit Winterhold hard?

The Psyjics, I thought, were speaking of our discovery of The Eye of Magnus when they said, "Your actions have done such and such. Judgement will wait until such and such happens." I never got an "other than CoW questline vibe" from that dialogue. Then again, I totally missed the SW: KotOR 1 plot twist :P

Your theory does have merit. I can see the possibilities of it. But I took the Archmage's explanation at face value. And if you think about it, *I* still caused the collapse, just not as my Skyrim character :)

A fun and interesting theory. That quest line could, indeed, have been much better. I was especially surprised when my weak wizard character was made Archmage. Who knows, Bethesda may originally have intended something more grand and elaborate.

Personally I always felt that the Augur of Dunlain had a hand in it. I also never believed Savos Aren, but I understand why he would want to cover it up.
