SKSE doesn't work on Windows 10

Post » Sun Oct 11, 2015 2:10 pm

Skse isn't working on windows 10 it won't interface correctly with the mods, all the mods either bug out or report that skse isn't running. I know skse is running because next to the game version number in the escape menu it shows the skse version and everything.

The topic is incorrect, SKSE runs just fine on Win 10. I know this for a fact since I have Win 10 and SKSE shows no issues on my end.

Is SKSE properly installed?

Try installing using the actual installer found at SKSE website.

If you use Steam to install mods, stop. Download manually and use proper tools to install and manage mods.

I'm not an idiot, i don't use steam to install mods, I used to use skse downloaded from the skse website, but the skse website says to use steam to download skse from the steam store.

I manually install all my mods and use LOOT and TS5Edit to get everything optimized.?

Well, clearly SKSE is running but it seems something is missing. Thus I guess the additional loose scripts and stuff that normally come with the SKSE package did not properly install through Steam. That's why I recommended using the installer found at SKSE website.

There's nothing wrong with downloading mods from Steam, this insistence otherwise strikes me as a bit of an elitist attitude. Yes, their system could still use improvement, but it *IS* a proper tool for installing mods, and the official launcher, crude as it is, is a proper tool for managing mods. Yes, it too could use improvement, but it DOES work.

The SKSE website does not specifically say to use the version from the Steam store. It's just a recommended option should other methods not work properly. IMO, the best option would be to use their exe installer from the site. The Steam Store version hasn't been as thoroughly tested, and the manual install archive is probably best left to more advanced users.

Of course, this kind of thing depends on where you put your Steam folder too. If it's in the Program Files folders, you probably should move it because that's known to disrupt the ability to mod the game because of UAC.

lol i'm just loving the assumption that I don't know what i'm doing. anyways, my steam library is on my secondary partition, and I've always used the manual archive in the past.

P.S. I think I found the issue, the steam download doesn't seem to include the scripts that come with SKSE, only the SKSE binarys.

P.P.S. Yep that fixed it, copying the Data/scripts folder from the manual archive made it start working.

I'm stuck at the old habbits. Back in the day, I learned the things the hard way. And I'm still learning today. That's why I recommend staying away from Steam Workshop. But if one knows and understands it's limitations and other downsides, then I have absolutely no objections.

My reply was as much for you as it might be for someone else in the same boat. I was not implying anything about your particular skill level.

Glad to hear things worked out. :goodjob:

Believe me, I had to learn this the hard way myself. When SKSE had no installer, meaning full manual install was the only way, I assumed only copying stuff that go to the main game folder was enough, meaning the launcher and DLLs. That was enough for previous games so I assumed it was the same for Skyrim. I couldn't be more wrong.

Like I said, I still learn new stuff.

Even us old lizards learn new stuff. I was not aware the Steam Store version didn't install the necessary script files along with the binaries.
