[WIPz] Swiveller's Combined Texture Pack

Post » Wed Oct 14, 2015 10:33 am

Some of you will have noticed me posting pics of new textures on this forum over the past few months or so. As this mod is now nearing a stage at which I can with some confidence predict when most of it will be finished I thought it was time I created a proper, full-blown 'WIP' thread.

What is it?

Swiveller's Combined Texture Pack started out as a combination of my existing texture packs, with a few replacements and additions. I soon discovered, though, that I was no longer happy with much of my previous work, as well as that textures from different packs did not always work well together. Most of my old work was therefore discarded, and I began making new textures.

My aim has been to create a texture pack that, while generally faithful to the original designs, is significantly richer in colour in detail. To this end, I have been drawing on my own library of photographs (only two or three pictures from online sources have been used) and using a range of image editing and drawing techniques. It's been a lot of fun, as I've not only seen my own Morrowind install change, but have also picked up a number of new skills.

What has been done so far?

Thus far, I have finished most or, in a few cases, all of the textures for the following building sets and terrains:

* Cabins (Shacks);

* Common Homes;

* Daedric Ruins;

* Dunmer Strongholds;

* Hlaalu Homes and Fortifications;

* Imperial Fortresses;

* Redoran Homes and Fortifications;

* Sewers;

* Velothi Cantons, Towers, and Tombs.

* Ascadian Isles;

* Ashlands;

* Azura's Coast;

* Bittercoast;

* Grazelands;

* Molag Amur

* West Gash.

In addition, I have made a number of shop signs, textures for barrels and chests, textures for ALMSIVI shrines and textures for the 'Welcome' road markers that you can find close to various Dunmer settlements. The mod will also include my Dunmer City Banners, likely with a few new additions.

What is the resolution of these textures?

Most of the building textures are 1024*1024, 1024*512, 1024*256 or 1024*128 pixels in size. The majority of the land textures, though, are sized 2048*2048 pixels. This does mean that older systems might find this texture pack somewhat taxing.

When do you expect to finish?

A 'version 0.8' will likely be released in December. It will include the sets mentioned above, possibly with a few extras (such as new textures for the larger mushrooms). It will not yet include the Dwemer Ruins and Telvanni Towers as I am not yet happy with my base images for those structures and, therefore, intend to take more photographs before I continue working on the two texture sets.

I am not yet sure when a 'version 1.0' might be released.

Good heavens Mr Swiveller, this all sounds awfully spiffy! Are there any pictures of this texture pack in action?

I have created an ImGur album here:

Pictures of Dunmer Strongholds, and additional pics of the Ascadian Isles will be added later.
